Amity University organizes seminar on Road Safety

Amity University organized a seminar on Road Safety for Amity students at C-Block Auditorium, Amity University Campus, Sector-125 Noida. The seminar was conducted by personnel of Noida Traffic Police including Dr. B.R Verma, ARTO, Gautam Budh Nagar, Mr. Vijay Mishra, PTO, Gautam Budh Nagar, Mr. Rakesh Yadav, TSI, Noida, Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Head Constble, Noida.

Inaugurating the seminar, Dr. B.R Verma, ARTO shared that every year Traffic Police observes Road Safety Week from January 01 – January 07 and this is the 22nd Road Safety Week observed by Noida Traffic Police. During the week long campaign, Noida Traffic Police performs activities like free eye test of drivers, distribution of reflectors and organizing awareness programs in different part of city. Dr. Verma said that youth are the future of our country and we want them to be safe on roads. He said that according to an estimate in every three minute one youth is hurt in an accident. Dr. Verma called upon the audience to wear seat belts and helmets while driving because seat belts and helmets are not a burden but they save lives during accident.

Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Head Constble, Noida informed that there are five main causes of road accident - Drowsiness, Alcohol, Over speed, wrong side vehicular movement and Mobile. Mr. Sharma said that our country tops in 203 countries when it comes to road accidents. Out of all road accidents, 77% are caused due to driver fault, 3% due to vehicle problem, 7 % due to bad roads, 8% due to climate conditions and remaining 5% due to other causes.

Sharing his views with the audience Mr. Rakesh Yadav, TSI, Noida said that traffic is regulated by two ways – manually by traffic personnel and electronically by traffic signal. Mr Yadav demonstrated various manual traffic signals. Mr. Yadav said that out of total deaths every day, 80% deaths are due to road accidents. Mr. Yadav suggested that a person should not drive in three circumstances – drunken state, physically unfit and in state of depression or mental unrestness.

During the occasion short films on road safety, traffic awareness, causes of accidents were shown to the students. Brig. S.K. Doval, Director – Administration, AUUP, Col. V.K. Sood, Director – Safety, AUUP and senior officials of Amity University were present during the seminar.
