A Rendezvous with Shri Rahul Gandhi by Students of Amity Business School
The foundation of growth for any country rests on the strong shoulders of its youth. The vision of Shri Rahul Gandhi, the young and dynamic leader, is to empower the youth of our great nation and include them in the decision making process of the country through the project “Students 500”. This initiative was exclusively held with 10 brightest and meritorious students of Amity Business School on February 01, 2011 at his residence 12, Tughlak Lane, New Delhi.
With the blessings and guidance of respected Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan the students of ABS received the golden opportunity of meeting the leader of our country – Shri Rahul Gandhi.
Under “Students 500” program, Shri Rahul Gandhi will meet and interact with the selective 500 students from the top colleges across the country to explore the areas where the young can contribute in nation building and include them in the mainstream.
The selected students from Amity Business Schools -Mr. Samir Nijhawan( MBA Class of 2011), Ms. Janhavi Vyas (MBA Class of 2011), Mr. Kulwant Singh(MBA Class of 2012), Ms. Sakshi Rawat (MBA Class of 2012), Mr. Shubham Sharma (MBA Class of 2011), Mr. Parijat Sinha (MBA Class of 2011), Ms. Ritika Nijhawan (MBA Class of 2012), Ms. Chandni Jain (MBA Class of 2012), Ms. Priyanka Gandhi (MBA Class of 2011), exceptionally bright students and have proved themselves in several areas of their interest, met Shri Gandhi with eloquent dreams in their eyes and overwhelming joy in their hearts. The students were accompanied by Dr. Chandranshu Sinha -Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator MBA (Human Resources).
The one and a half hour meeting with Shri Gandhi, which commenced at 3 pm, was very interactive and fruitful for the students. During an ice- breaking session, he curiously asked students about the books they have recently read. He also asked them the most basic yet complicated and insightful question like the meaning of the term ‘Business’. Through ten different answers from ten different people, he made the students understand that in this life not everything can be defined and at the end of the day, business, politics and life all are inter- related.
Shri Rahul Gandhi, also made students construe the true meaning of the word ‘Poor”, which according to him is not the person living below poverty line but a person who is not connected to the world. He also introduced students to an interesting concept of ‘Gross Domestic Connectivity’ in place of the often quoted term ‘Gross Domestic Product’.
The enthusiastic students were fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity of asking him certain lurking questions in their minds regarding the future of country and other sensitive issues ranging from politics (Telangana Issue), Reservation, Corruption, Education to Microfinance and the growth prospects of Rural Economy.
The somber and prolific interaction ended on a light note when the students asked Shri Gandhi to if he was their teacher, what subject he would probably teach them? He pondered and replied that it would be the subject of ‘Art of Observation and asking Questions’ which encourages and teaches one to ask correct questions and learn from the responses in order to be successful in life. Towards the end of the discussion the students were introduced to the principle of ‘Three Whys” which entails that one must question himself/herself as to why he/she asked that particular question and then again, question himself for the second and third time.
During the interaction, Mr. Gandhi was accompanied by
Mr. Hibi Eden, President of National Students Union of India (NSUI) and
Mrs. Meenakshi Natarajan, Member of Parliament from Mandsaur in the 15th Lok Sabha and AICC secretary.
The rendezvous of ABS students with Shri Rahul Gandhi was a memorable experience of their lives where they not only learnt and were mesmerized by the great leader but were also inspired by his intellect and passion for our great nation.
The students left his residence with a new understanding of various aspects of life and with promise to meet him soon in Amity Campus.
