Experts discuss the latest trends and advances in the field of Computer Science and Technology during a two day National Conference at Amity University

Department of Computer Science and Technology, Amity School of Engineering and Technology kick started a two day National Conference on “ Advances in Computer Science and Technology” at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.

The Conference has brought together leading Researchers, Scientists, Business Leaders, Government Officials and Engineers, providing them a platform to discuss and deliberate on the latest advancements in various areas associated with computational technology including Hardware and Software Design, Advance Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining and Warehousing etc.

The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Debashis Sur- President, Tata Tele Services, Mr. Tarun Singhal, Director, Oracle, Mr. Dinesh Taneja, VP, Volvo Eicher, Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Pro VC (Academics) and Director General, Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) and Prof. (Col.)Kaiser Singh- HOD (CSE), ASET.

Welcoming the august gathering Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Pro VC (Academics) and Director General, Amity School of Engineering and Technology dwelt upon the aptness of the theme of the Conference. She expressed that the kind of advances which are witnessed by IT industry do not remain confined to a particular area but touch each and every sector of industry, society and Government. She, further, stressed “India has made a mark for itself in the IT sector globally but, unfortunately, India does not have a global brand of hardware. As researchers and as academicians, we have to think that why in India we are not able to develop renowned hardware brands which can compete globally. The remedy lies in increased focus on Research and Development, which is very essential for developing new products”. Dr. Shukla expressed her hope that the various plenary sessions that will unfold during the two day conference will add immensely to the repository of R& D in the area of Computer Science and Technology.

Focusing on the importance of technology in ensuring “inclusive growth” of the country, as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister of the country, Mr. Debashis Sur- President, Tata Tele Services said, “technology can play a major role in bridging the gap between rural and urban India and can contribute a lot in the core areas where the development is immediately called for including agriculture, rural healthcare and core banking sector. The deploying of requisite technology in these sectors can immensely contribute to the growth trajectory of the nation”. Mr. Sur shared how on an experimental basis Tata Tele Services used simple technology to help the fishermen of Tamil Nadu to identify the specific locations with largest number of fishes in the ocean and bargain the best rate of the catch in 5 different Mandis sitting at one location through sms sent in regional languages.

Mr. Tarun Singhal, Director, Oracle shared his views on “Advances in Computer Science and Technology- the new horizon of IT” and highlighted various areas which could be integrated using IT such as Public Transport, Emergency Services, Federals, Gas Communication, Meteorology, Seismology, Radiology, City Authorities. He outlined the importance of the integration of IT into business decisions and talking about the expectations of businesses from IT said, “Businesses want IT to provide solutions to the increasing loads of data in a predictble and cost effective manner, rapid introduction of and changes of applications, deliver better information to decision makers and help make competitive advantage.” Sharing a success mantra with the students, Mr. Singhal called upon the students to remember five important words in their lives namely Courage, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation and Pace, which will stand them in good stead throughout their lives.

The inauguration was followed by three technical sessions on “ Emerging Trends in Data Warehousing and Data Mining”, “ Advances in Computer Architectural Design” and “ Applications of Computer Graphics and Multimedia Technologies ”in which eminent panelists such as Mr. Chiranjeev Singh, Country Head, Net App, Mr. Ajai Sahni- Sr. Consultant, Oracle, Mr. Mohit Jain, Sr. GM (IT), Fiserv, Dr. Lalit Awasthi, Dean & Professor, NIT Hamirpur shared their views.

The second day of the Conference will include technical sessions on “Emerging Technology Trends in Mobile Computing & Wireless Communication”,” Emerging Cloud Computing & Web Services” and “Shaping the Future of Business Intelligence” by eminent speakers from industry.

The Conference will conclude with a valedictory function and Award Ceremony during which Mr. Rajeev Asija, Sr. VP, HCL, Mr. Naresh Aggarwal, CEO & CMD, AEM India and Mr. Vishnu Dusad, CEO, Nucleus Software will be present and share their views with the distinguished gathering.
