Students from Amity Institute of Information Technology visit SOS Children Village – Greenfield, Faridabad
Every year, Amity observes “ Human Values Quarter” from January onwards in order to instill the love for Indian values and culture in the students of Amity. During the quarter, several competitive and awareness events such as debates, skits, quiz, screening of short films, essay competitions, poster competitions are organized by the institutions of Amity, giving an opportunity to the students to enthusiastically participate and display their skils.
As part of Human Values Quarter, 28 students from Amity Institute of Information Technology (AIIT) along with Prof. HSP Singh- Head, AIIT and faculty members visited SOS Childern’s Village in Greenfield, Faridabad on January 28, 2011 to spend some quality time with the children and gift them sundry items.
The students enthusiastically participated in the noble cause and collected 22 cartons of items including Clothes, Footwear, Medical Kits, Stationary, Bournvita, Biscuits and Chocolates for presenting to the Children at SOS Village within a week, after it was decided to visit SOS Village.
At SOS Village, the group from AIIT was greeted by Mr. Kulbhushan -Dy. Director, SOS Village, who briefed them about the objectives and functioning of SOS and how the health and education of each and every child in SOS Village is taken care of. The students and faculty members of AIIT were quite surprised and amazed by the way the authorities at SOS are ensuring the sound mental and emotional development of the children by grouping 7-8 children together under one mother as a close knit family. The mother takes care of the children like her own and the selection and training process of this mother goes for over 2 years so that she perfectly understands the psyche of the children.
The students were taken to various houses in the Village where they were introduced to the members of the SOS family including Rekha, Yashika, Kashish and Waaris. All these houses were well maintained in terms of hygiene and all the children seemed to be very happy and really attached to their respective mothers. At present, there are over 219 children between the age group of 1-23 years at the Greenfield SOS centre in Faridabad.
At around 3:30 pm, all the school going children came back to the village. The sight of those school children descending from their school bus and running inside their respective homes was really heart touching. Their gleeful faces gave a sense of overwhelming happiness to the students and faculty members of AIIT.
The group from AIIT had a gala time with the SOS family—they sang, danced and played together.
Prof. HSP Singh, faculty members- Ms. Alpana Kakkar - Dy. Director, Student’s Affairs, Ms. Ritu Punhani, Dr. Dolly Sharma, Mr. Ajay Vikram Singh, Mr. Himanshu Gupta and Ms. Ruchika Bathla thanked the authorities of SOS Village for their help, support and guidance and headed back to the institution enriched with the experience at SOS Village.
