Vidur Agarwal, Student of Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB) scores 58 goals during ‘YMCA All India Water Polo Tournament 2010-2011’ to win the tournament
On the occasion of YMCA’s / its Golden Jubilee Celebration, YMCA in association with GLOBOSPORTS Pvt. Ltd. and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organized ‘YMCA All India Water Polo Tournament 2010-2011’- from November 4, 2010 to January 20, 2011 at K.C R Swimming Academy, Bangalore.
The event saw a participation of 16 teams that were divided in four groups to play on league basis before eight top teams qualified for the knock out stage. The top eight teams after the league matches were Indian Navy, Governors XI, Border Security Force, Delhi State Team, Central Railways, Calcutta Sports Association, Karnataka State Team and YMCA Water polo Team.
The team of Governors XI won over the team of YMCA Water polo by 9-3 goals during the Quarter Final Round. Three days later during the Semi Final Round ‘Delhi State Team’ lost to ‘Governors XI’ with a goal difference of 4.
It was for the first time that the states were out of finals and both the teams that qualified for the Final match were of service department. The much awaited Final match was played between ‘Governors XI’ and ‘Central Railways’ wherein the latter took a beating after its fair quota of fight from the former. The match goals were 12 – 10 and went to the extra time. Captain of ‘Governors XI’, Mr. Vidur Agarwal student of B.Tech Biotech (2nd Year) from Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB), Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) was the lead scorer of the whole tournament scoring 58 goals in 7 games and also the record striker of Indian water polo history to score above 200 goals in 5 seasons in all categories and age group.
The also participants in the tournament were the teams- ‘Central Railways (Mumbai)’, ‘Gujarat state team, Border Security Force (Delhi)’, ‘ER (WB)’, ‘Eastern Command (WB)’, ‘Calcutta Sports Association (WB)’, ‘Western Railways (Mumbai)’, ‘Manipur State Team’, ‘Indian Navy (Visakhapatnam)’and ‘Governors XI (Central Government)’.
