“INSPIRE 2010” Workshop on Science and Technology concludes at Amity University
Amity University, Uttar Pradesh in association with Department of Science & Technology, Government of India organized a Science Workshop “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research INSPIRE 2010”
During the worked over 150 students from Vishwa Bharti, Noida, Father Angel School, Lajpat Nagar and Amity International Schools spread across Delhi/NCR participated.
Mr. Neraj Sharma, Advisor, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India,Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Pro-VC (Academics), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Ajit Verma, Director General, Amity Institute of Microbial Technology and Dr. Madhu Phull, Convener, INSPIRE 2010 were present during the valedictory ceremony.
Mr. Neraj Sharma, Advisor, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Chief Guest on the occasion addressed the august gathering and remarked that children of current generation are experiencing advanced economic opportunities and state-of-the-art technology. India has given the brightest of scientists to the world and India has a potential with the right infrastructure and opportunities. India has tried to cover up the pace of science and technology with other developed countries of the world. Platforms like INSPIRE can ignite the young minds.
Mr. Neraj Sharma advised students that interest, passion and dreams are crucial for students to grow and think in a matured way while choosing a right career. It is also significant to choose a career with an optimistic mind set.
Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Pro-VC (Academics), Amity University Uttar Pradesh in her inaugural address said, “the five days of the science internship programme has been an excellent experience for the students. Science is the part and parcel of life. Therefore, it has become essential to learn the intricacies of science in our life. Logical mind and hard work are the two most crucial aspects for students to progress in life. It will also help them for the betterment of the society. She advised students to think about a career that will help to enhance oneself and at the same time contribute to the development of the nation.”
Dr. Ajit Verma, Director General, Amity Institute of Microbial Technology inspired the students to develop interest in research and development from an early age. He said that the students should have the inclination for observation. They should try to express their thoughts in national and international journals with their writings. He discussed on the anatomy of the root of micro-organisms and gave some break through examples of research. Nature cannot be patented but observation and research can be patented. It is a person’s intellectual property right. Observation provides inspiration to research and increase knowledge.
The Camp involved the interaction of participants with globally renowned scientists who also got an opportunity to work with them in laboratories, thereby, enhancing the knowledge and know-how of the participants.
The five day camp included sessions on
“Current Trends In Condensed Matter Physics” by Dr. SatyaVrat Patnaik, Physics Dept., JNU, Delhi, “Computational Physics” by Dr. B. Biswal, Prof. Venkateswara College, DU,Delhi, “Maths in Life” by Dr. Amber Habib, Mathematical Science Foundation, Delhi, “Biotechnology in the New Millenium” by Dr. S. B. Anand, School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Dr. A.K. Bhatnagar, Department of Botany, Delhi University spoke on Climate change and global warming.
During valediction ceremony, winners of the inter school INSPIRE 2010 Quiz competition were awarded prizes and certificates. Amity International School, Mayur Vihar team bagged the first prize and Amity International School, Saket team bagged the second prize. All the participants of the INSPIRE 2010 were conferred participation certificate.
