“INSPIRE 2010” a five day Workshop on science and technology begins at Amity University
Amity University, Uttar Pradesh in association with Department of Science & Rechnology, Government of India kick started a five day Science Camp “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” from November 16-20 at Amity University, Noida Campus, Sector-125
Inspire is an innovative programme initiated & managed by DST for the top performers of Class X (93% & above) with an objective to attract the talent to the study of science at an early age and build the required critical Human Resource for strengthening and expanding the field of Science and Technology and R & D base of the country.
Over 150 students from Vishwa Bharti, Noida, Father Angel School, Lajpat Nagar and Amity International Schools spread across Delhi/NCR are participating in the Camp.
Eminent scientists present during the inauguration were the Chief Guest Dr. KK Dwivedi, Advisor & Head, National Council for Science & Technology, Department of Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) and Guest of Honour, Dr. Suresh Chand, Scientist, National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi.
Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Fashion Technology, Maj. Gen. K. Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh and Dr. B. Shukla, Pro VC (Academics), Amity University Uttar Pradesh also graced the occasion.
Dr. Suresh Chand, Scientist, National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi honorary guest while addressing the august gathering said that creativity and innovation are integral part of science which comes in students through inspiration. True inspiration is when there is no illusion and one knows the right direction in life. Dr. Suresh Chand gave his presentation on Four generations of Solar Cells, Silicon Cells, Thin film Cells, Polymer Cells & Quantum Dot Cells- He dwelt on how Government of India is promoting the use of Solar cells in the country through various initiatives like Jawaharlal Mission. He urged students to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in the field of Polymer cells. So that in future the young minds can make some sort of break through in this field with their research. Dr. Suresh Chand ended his presentation with quotes from the Bhagawat Gita which called upon mankind to work for the development of community and country.
Dr. KK Dwivedi, Advisor & Head, National Council for Science & Technology, Department of Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Chief Guest on the occasion spoke on the topic “A Curious walk through Time”. The scientific and vedic concept of time was analyzed by him. He said that natural signatures of time are tree rings, fossils and peking man. He informed the students that the big bang theory came into existence about fifteen million years ago. The stars and galaxies came into existence. Time loses its initial importance of being linear. According to the vedic concept time is cyclic. The cycle of time is endless in which day is the creation and night is the delusion. Dr. Dwivedi gave lot of anecdotes and stories from hindu mythology to make his presentation interesting to the students. The paradox of time travel was discussed by him. He said that Time Machine is a route to the past.
While addressing the gathering Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Fashion Technology said that “INSPIRE” is an excellent platform through which the scientists of today will inspire the scientists of tomorrow. It’s a great opportunity for all. These scientists with their years of hard work and experience will inculcate the scientific insights and temperament into the students.
Maj. Gen. K. Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh while addressing the august gathering said that it is a proud privilege for the gathering to listen to distinguished scientists of the country. Talking about the importance of Science and technology in the country, Maj. Gen Singh said Science and Technology are the fastest growing areas. One can speak with people in any part of the world with the press of a button. Students have to learn to live in compleye hi-tech environment and contribute to it through innovation and R & D. India can no longer afford to copy or import technologies from other countries. R & D has to be given utmost attention in the country. So, we have expectations from the students to work hard and make a brand of India globally.
Dr. Madhu Phull, Convener, INSPIRE 2010, proposed a vote of thanks on the occasion.
Impressive Robotic Demonstration took place during the inaugural day of the camp.
The Camp involves the interaction of participants of participants with globally renowned scientists and an opportunity to work with them in laboratories, thereby, enhancing the knowledge and know-how of the participants.

Biswal, Prof. Venkateswara College, DU,Delhi, ”Face to Face with successful Entrepreneurs” by Mr. Prabir kumar Das, Manager, Amity Incubator Center, Amity University, Noida, “Maths in Life” by Dr. Amber Habib, Mathematical Science Foundation, Delhi, “Biotechnology in the New Millenium” by Dr. S. B. Anand, School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, “Biochemistry and Endocrinology” by Prof. Muralidhar, K, Dept. of Zoology, Delhi University, Delhi
