Amity hones the skills of students to aspire for Nobel Prize through a unique Science and Mathematics Olympiads Workshop
As part of Amity International Schools' mission to inculcate scientific temper amongst Indian youth, Amity Centre for Science Olympiads (ACSO) and Amity Institute for Competitive Examinations (AICE) in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education(HBCSE), Mumbai conducted a unique day and night Science and Mathematics Olympiads Workshop from October 14- 21, 07 at Amity University, Sector- 125 Noida.
Amity Centre for Science Olympiads, under the dynamic guidance and leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, RBEF has been organizing this prestigious event successfully for last 3 years in a row This time over 32 students of classes IX to XII from schools across Delhi / NCR including DPS, Cambridge School, Mothers International School, Springdales School, Modern School, Mount Carmel School and fraternity of Amity International Schools enthusiastically participated in the workshop.
The workshop was a perfect blend of theory and hands- on practice. Students cracked equations, brew concoctions and proved their creative and analytical skills in a thought provoking and stimulating environment. Workshop was conducted in two sessions, morning session was from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm and evening session was from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Doubt clearing classes were held in the night from 8-10 pm. Eminent faculty members from all over India including
IISC, Bangalore; ISI, Delhi; Fergusson College; Delhi Collegeof Engineering; IIT, Kanpur; IIT, Roorkee, Miranda House, Delhi; Gargi College , Delhi; Khalsa College, Delhi conducted different sessions to create a passion for learning science in students.

Dr. Aiyagiri Rao- Advisor, Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India; Dr. Shiva Prasad Khened- Director, National Science Centre, Govt. of India; Prof. Vijay A Singh- National Coordinator, Science Olympiads and TIFR, Mumbai; Prof. T.P Singh- Head, Dept. of Biophysics, AIIMS, New Delhi and Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools.
Prof. Vijay Singh- National Coordinator, Science Olympiads and TIFR gave a brief outline about the National and International Science Olympiads and how a student can make it to the International Olympiads, where only four persons out of 30, 000 represent India
Sharing his views with the distinguished gathering,
Dr. Aiyagiri Rao- Advisor, Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of Indiahighlighted the good quality work being done by private and autonomous bodies in the areas of science and mathematics in the country. He suggested public- private partnership in the area of science and mathematics to improve the quality of science and mathematics education in the country. He shared several new initiatives taken for promoting science in the country including “ Kishore Vigyanik Protsahan Yojna”. He further said that science should be pursued by only those students who have a passion for it and want to serve country and its people. Talking about the dismissal figure of students participating in the Olympiads, Dr. Rao further said that the interest of students in mathematics and science has to be kindled to enlarge the number of students vying for National and International Olympiads.
Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools congratulated the students who had attended the workshop and encouraged the students to excel in National and International Olympiads with a special reference to China which, at present, is at first position and bags golden medals in every Olympiad. Talking about the advancement in the area of science and mathematics, she said that there is a lot of talent and potential in the scientists of the country, who by their hardwork and research are going to make India a “Superpower” by next decade.
