AMITY INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION organised National Level Paper Presentation on “Teacher Education: A Futuristic View”

The stagnant image of teacher preparation may have been accurate a decade ago, but teacher education has experienced more significant changes during the past decade. National and state attention to the quality of teachers, along with high attrition rates and external accountability systems, has added to the pressures for major changes in teacher preparation. Moreover, the next decade promises to be one of even greater change and continuous improvement.
The future of teacher education in India is at the moment a prominent issue. Clearly, we are in a time when the preparation of teachers is a concern reaching far beyond colleges of education. Since the current initiatives will shape not only the future of teacher education but also of the teaching profession itself, they spark several important questions. These questions revolve around the issues of quality, professional regeneration, global concerns, efficiency, impact of technology, and alternative certifications for teachers.
To brainstorm and deliberate on these aspects and to develop a better understanding of this futuristic view of Teacher Education,
Amity Institute of Education (AIE), Saket organized a National Level Paper Presentation on the theme, “Teacher Education: A Futuristic View” on 15th December 2006 under the guidance of Dr. Ranjana Bhatia, Prof. & Principal, AIE.
More than 50 Teacher trainees from over sixteen colleges of NCR participated and presented their views on the theme and its sub-themes.
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF), congratulated all the participants for the courage and confidence with which they presented their views on the theme as well as sub-theme. He was of the opinion that only teachers can change India. He was confident that those present will definitely contribute substantially in changing the country and subsequently the world.
Prof. Geetha Pillai, Director, Centre for Women Studies (CWS), Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth was the panelist for the paper presentation.
