Update on Amity Grandmaster Challenge
AMITY GRANDMASTER CHALLENGE, series of 18 games match being played under fide time control, rapid and blitz between World’s youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi and 2005 European Women’s Champion Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine is drawing into fierce competition. Details of each match is as follows:
Parimarjan Negi & Kateryna game one results in draw
World’s youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi survived against 2005 European Women’s Champion Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine in the first game of the Amity Grandmasters Challenge that got underway here at Russian Cultural Center. It was a predictable Sicilian Nazdorf by Parimarjan that gave Kateryna a huge positional advantage after a surprising 9th move. As Parimarjan fought on vigorously, Lahno felt the heat and panicked into an exchange sequence that witnessed her advantage evaporating after nearly every move. Quickly moving into a rook and opposite color bishop ending, the players signed the peace treaty after 38 moves with just under two minutes remaining in their clock.
Kateryna won the second game
Former European Women’s Champion Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine defeated world’s youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi with black pieces in the second classical game. The second game was almost a replica of the first game wherein Kateryna had secured a strong initiative after the opening and blew it away. Parimarjan, as white in the second game, fell a step forward as he did not find the right moves after attaining a good advantage out of the opening.
Parimarjan and Kateryna draws the third game
2005 European Women Champion Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine maintained her lead, holding World’s youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi to a draw in the third game of the Amity Grandmasters Challenge, at Russian Cultural Centre here on Tuesday. With the draw Kateryna maintains a 2-1 lead over Parimarjan with fifteen games still to come in the 18 games match
Kateryna holds lead after another draw in game 4
World's youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi tried hard but 2005 European Women's champion Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine stuck to her task, drawing the fourth game of the Amity Grandmasters Challenge here at Russian Center. With the draw, Kateryna maintained her slender full point lead in the match. The score-line is 2.5-1.5 in favour of the Ukrainian with 14 games still to come. There are two more games under FIDE time control left before the players shift to faster versions of the game – rapid and blitz chess.
Kateryna maintains lead after another hard fought draw in game 5
2005 European Women's champion Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine again held on to her own and drew a difficult fifth game against World's youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi. The fourth draw in five games so far in the match helped Kateryna retain her slender full point lead over Parimarjan and the score line now stands at 3-2 in favour of the Ukrainian who had won the second game of the 18-games match.
Kateryna Lahno maintains lead by drawing sixth game
Riding high her on her luck, Woman Grandmaster Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine escaped a certain checkmate against world's youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi of India in the sixth game of the Amity Grandmasters Challenge at Russian Cultural Centre. The fifth draw out of six games played so far confirmed that the first round of this grueling match has gone in Kateryna's favour. The Ukrainian now maintains her full point lead with 6 rapid and 6 blitz games still remaining in the match. For the records Kateryna leads 3.5-2.5 after first six games.
