Amity Chess Academy inaugurated to identify and nurture the National and International level prodigies in Chess
In today’s challenging world which necessitates excellence in all walks of life, a leader must possess an overall personality, encompassing physical and mental agility. While, the outdoor sports enhance physical attributes of personality, indoor games like Chess contributes towards chiseling the mental agility of a person.
Keeping in view the importance of Chess and virtues associated with it, Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) Chapter of the Amity Chess Academy was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group with a vision to identify and nurture the National and International level talent in Chess from Amity and also to inculcate the virtues associated with game of Chess in Amitians.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. B.C. Joshi, a well known Chess Coach and Secretary, Noida Chess Association expressed his deep gratitude to Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools who initiated Chess Academy in Amity International School, Saket where India's youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi, who was also a student of the School at that time, was nurtured.
Sharing his views further, he referred to Chess as a “Mental Gym” which could bring miraculous transformation in the youth by inculcating mental prowess, analytical skills, sharpness of mind, and decision taking abilities. He remarked that keeping in view the importance of Chess, many countries like US, UK, Holland have been offering Chess as a subject in Schools to promote and encourage the Game amongst the youth of the country. He applauded the vision of the Founder President of Amity who has realized the importance of Chess and foreseen its potential transformational effect on the players.
Sharing his views, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that Chess enables future leaders to inculcate leadership qualities like commitment, prioritizing strategy, time management, focus, anticipation and above all, fair and just participation. He expressed his desire to inculcate all the virtues associated with Chess in the young budding entrepreneurs that are nurtured by Amity. He shared his conviction that chess players have all the requisite qualities and virtues to climb the pinnacle of success. Dr. Chauhan announced that Chess would be offered as an “Open elective subject” to all the students of Amity University Uttar Pradesh irrespective of their programmes and the top ten players identified by Amity Chess Academy through rigorous selection and coaching, would receive a cash award of total Rs. 1, 00, 000.He encouraged all the interested members of Amity Chess Academy to give their best in learning the game of virtues.
During the occasion, a Ceremonial Chess Competition was organized for the students, faculty members and staff.
