Assimilation of Traditional Media with Digital Media is the future of Media, opines Industry Experts during One Day Symposium at Amity University

 Amity School of Communications in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia organized a day Symposium on ‘Contemporary Media Practices in India’ held at Amity Campus, Sector 125 Noida.


The Symposium witnessed the presence of prominent Media personalities and a  team of 17 delegates and students led by Prof. Jane den Hollander, Vice Chancellor & President – Deakin University A book ‘ Indian News Media’ – From Observer to Participant by Usha M. Rodrigues and Maya Ranganathan was also released during the Occasion.


The symposium was inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. Jane den Hollander, Prof. Gary Smith, Prof. Peter Hodgsun - Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement) Deakin University; Prof. Trevor Day- Pro Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, Deakin University;  Ms. Usha Rodrigues – Head, Counsellor Advocacy Programme from Deakin University; Prof (Col) R.K.Dargan-  Advisor, Amity School of Communication and Dr. Gurinder Singh, Additional Group Vice Chancellor, Amity.


Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Gurinder Singh briefed them about the history, faculty strength and achievements of Amity University. He proposed to explore new areas such as Nano Technology, Bio Technology and medicines for further collaboration with Deakin University. He also mentioned about prospective association on specialized MBA- 3 Continent Programme, commercialization and filing of patents together in the area of social science.


Addressing the gathering, Prof. Jane den Hollander said that the current landscape of Media, both in India and Australia is facing tsunami of change. She further added that there has been a rise of smart machines such as smart phones, tablets etc. that have created a path of easy connect and communication. Praising the growth of digital revolution in Indian Media, Prof. Hollander said that India is at the forefront of the change and has the potential to be the global leader in digital media. Talking about the book, she said that the Indian news media’s evolution is seen in the backdrop of the nation’s economic, political and social developments which has been efficiently outlined  in the book.  


During the symposium, eminent media personnel conducted a Panel Discussion on the topic and enlightened the participants about the transformation and revolution witnessed by Indian media industry.


Sharing his thoughts on the issues faced by media, Mr. Sumit Tandon said that Print Media is still expanding and has great impact on the readers especially in the regional languages. He further mentioned that television has witnessed revolution in the 90s by the entry of private players in the sector.


Mr. Bhupinder Chaubey, Executive Editor, CNN IBN said that in the present scenario, Indian media and its challenges are evolving at a rapid pace. “It is important for the media professionals to be aware about various media including traditional, conventional, new age, social media, print and broadcast media. The future of media lies in the assimilation of Conventional Media with New Age media.” opines Mr. Chaubey.

 


The symposium was attended by more than 300 students, faculty, senior officials and staff of Amity University.
