Amity University and Monash University collaborate in the area of Psychology
A High-Level delegation from Monash University, Australia comprising of Dr. Gregory Cusack, Chief of Staff & Chief Coursework Officer and Prof. Shantha M. Wilson Rajaratnam, Head, School of Psychological Sciences, visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus. The aim of the visit was to explore partnership between Amity & Monash University in the area of Psychology and discuss the existing partnership and new provisions of NEP 2020 for Dual Degree, Joint Degree, Twinning Programs and other faculty mobility and research areas.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Shantha Rajaratnam, Head, School of Psychological Sciences, Monash University stated, “Students of both Universities should be engaged in conducting research work in the area of Psychology. Adolescents and young adults are facing a lot of problems such as depression and anxiety. They are unable to open up and share their problems with anyone because there is a stigma attached to mental problems. Also, treatment of mental health issues involves years of treatment and a huge cost. Therefore, there is a need to address mental health problems and work collaboratively in this direction. Monash University students can visit Amity University and get trained to work at Amity Centre of Happiness, which is aimed to promote mental well-being.”
Speaking about the collaboration, Dr. Gregory Cusack, Chief Coursework Officer & Chief of Staff, Portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), Monash University, averred, “The collaboration in the area of psychology will be highly beneficial for the students of both Universities since both in India and Australia, people are suffering from mental health problems, which became more prevalent post Covid. People are suffering silently but still not getting proper counselling and treatment which can ensure good mental health. We are glad to sign the Articulation arrangement under 1+2 model for psychology, aimed to foster research collaboration.”
Presenting a brief overview of Amity Education Group, Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities said, “Amity University has developed a very strong collaboration with Monash University and has already signed Articulation Agreement in Management, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Engineering, Management and Psychology domains. Psychology is the main focus area at Amity and a lot of youngsters are going through mental health problems. Amity and Monash University will develop new Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs in the area of Psychology, offer scholarships to the students and also provide them internship opportunities, thereby enhancing the academic area, giving back to the society, at the same time.”
