International Conference on Fashion Apparel & Textiles, INCFAT-2023 held at Amity University
Amity School of Fashion Technology (ASFT) organized an International Conference on Fashion Apparel & Textiles 2023, INCFAT’23, on the theme "LiFE: Opportunities & Challenges for Fashion, Textiles & Design."
Mr. Ram Sareen, Chairman and Founder, Tukatech Los Angeles, CA U.S.A, said, “The advancement of Technology has led to a significant change in the fashion industry. New fabrics, digital designs, colours and patterns are emerging, and buyers are opting for such designs. Therefore, there is no dearth of opportunities for students of fashion technology, they must learn the use of technology for creating unique and out -of-the- box designs.
Addressing the students, Mrs. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Fashion Technology, stated, “Like in every other field, new technologies are emerging in the fashion industry and students must learn how to adopt these technologies so as to keep themselves abreast of the latest trends. The conference will be highly beneficial for the students and the insightful sessions by the experts will guide them, make them grow in their career and enhance their creativity.”
Speaking about Indian textiles, Ms. Pratima Pandey, Fashion Designer, Prama, said, “Indian weaves and textiles, specially the handloom industry, is thriving constantly at a fast pace and young designers are making optimum use of the resources and Indian fabrics available to them to create striking garments and apparel. Fashion designers give a lot of attention to detailing, however at the same time, they must be responsible and reuse/recycle waste products in an innovative way.”
Highlighting the popularity of Indian fashion across the globe, Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “Indian textiles and handlooms are very much in demand not only in India but abroad also. Tourism and fashion attract a lot of international audience and helps in cross cultural exchange between two countries. Through this conference, budding fashion designers will get knowledge about the current trends in the fashion industry and also about the career prospects in this field. Many start-ups are coming up in the area of fashion design, thereby promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance.”
Prof (Dr.) S.M. Ishtiaque, Emeritus Professor, IIT, Delhi asserted, “Digital technology can produce various stunning designs. While creating a garment, a lot of raw material is considered as waste, however, it is not waste in the real sense and something unique can be created out of that waste also since it is not waste but raw material. Therefore, changing the mindset is very important and creating opportunities out of challenges is the need of the hour for sustainable and conscious fashion.”
Emphasizing upon sustainability, Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Kothari, Emeritus Professor, IIT, Delhi, “Since technology is advancing, new materials are available easily and the expectation of consumers is also changing since they want to buy something new and unique, every time. Use of smart textiles keeping in mind functionality, design and comfort should be promoted, however, sustainability is extremely crucial when it comes to fashion and design. Therefore, organic and sustainable materials must be used for creating apparel.”
Dr. Swapna Mishra, Chief Operating Officer, and Officiating CEO, Textile Sector Skill Council, said, “Lack of adequate academia and industry connect, no exposure for on-the-job training during education, not finding the right jobs and employers not finding the right workforce. are some of the major challenges faced by fashion, textile and apparel industry. However, Skill India Mission is an effective and elaborate training plan, wherein under the various training schemes, people are trained, and their skills are developed so that they find suitable opportunities for themselves and become experts in their field.”
Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Director General & Dean, Faculty of Applied Arts, said, “During the one-day Conference, fashion researchers from various institutions such as NIFT Jodhpur, NIFT Kangra, Avantika University Indore, DAV College Haryana, Banasthali Jaipur and many other institutions will be presenting their research papers. The Conference aims to enhance their creativity and knowledge of the students and emphasizes upon the aspect of innovation which is a key to sustainability and growth.”
