Responding to a question regarding India’s Digital Future he said, added, “Students have unprecedented opportunities now in the digital era, as compared to earlier times and also have great responsibility towards the country. The approach of the government is to have absolute citizen participation in policy- making.”
Responding to a question on how the Government will make sure that AI is being used only for positive purposes, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, averred, “Like with every technology, AI will be disruptive and create very good impact but it can also have the possibility of being misused by criminals. Therefore, we have devised a Digital India Act, wherein we have created a framework for all emerging technologies including AI and laid down the principle that technology can be used for any purpose, however, the technology must not cause any harm. Today, we have 83 crore Indians using the internet and by 2025-26, we will have 124 crores Indians who will be using the internet. Therefore, it is our duty to ensure that all of them are safe from the misuse of Artificial Intelligence on Social Media platforms.” He called upon the Social Media Platforms to be careful and ensure that the information shared is not misleading, provocative or incited.
Deliberating upon how the DPDP Act -2023(Digital Personal Data Protection-2023), will protect the data from being misused, he said, “ With this act, we have declared that we will permit start ups and companies to store and process the data , subject to the DPDP Act processes being applicable else the government will blacklist them, thereby ensuring no rights of data protection of the citizens are being violated.”
Advising the students of Amity, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated, “The country today has a huge number of opportunities for the youth but for those opportunities you not only need the degrees but also the skills and abilities to pursue those opportunities. Today, whether you are an employer or a potential start up, you need to have knowledge and skills. I would urge you to develop your skills whether it is programming, designing or any other digital skills, along with the degree which will make you a competitive warrior. In 2014, the Indian workforce was 42 crore but 3 out of every 4 Indians worked without any skills or education. This is changing rapidly, and you are very fortunate to get the opportunity to develop your skills along with receiving world class education. I have many role models including my father, Andrew Crow, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and many others. You can have many role models and learn from each one of them since everyone has different qualities and skills.”
