Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences (AIES), Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences Domain, Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) organized a One Month Online Certificate Course’ on "Green Technology for Mitigating Climate Change”, from 31st August to 29th September 2023, in virtual mode.

Suggesting the alternatives for “Single Use Plastic”, Dr. S.K. Nigam, Member Scientific Panel-FSSAI, MoH, Govt. of India, said, “In India, 30,000 tonnes of Plastic waste is produced in India every day and the volumes are rising rapidly. Based on present growth rates, plastic waste is projected to more than triple by 2050. Therefore, many alternate options for plastic have been made available such as compostable material, natural fabrics, recycled paper materials, which have lesser environmental impact. Such materials need to be promoted as a sustainable management practice. In addition, Awareness Programmes must be organized to spread awareness about the negative impact of plastic on the environment. “

Encouraging the students to take initiatives for solving the problem of climate change, Mr. Anil Pareek, Co-Founder & Director Marketing, LeadsNexTech, averred, “Climate change has become a major concern across the world and India has witnessed many natural calamities such as Joshimath landslides and Kedarnath floods due to climate change. People are losing their lives due to climate change therefore it is extremely crucial that we recognize our collective social responsibility and be the change in order to create a positive change. Students can launch different kinds of start-ups to solve the problem of climate change and the government is providing various grants and funding for such projects. Therefore, students must come forward and become the crusaders of finding solutions to the problem of climate change.”

Emphasizing upon the role of youth for sustainability, Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, NITI Aayog Mentor, stated, “The youth must take the lead and initiate the steps and measures for a sustainable and safe environment. Students must be inquisitive and ask pertinent questions to find innovative solutions. Sandalwood and bamboo plantation can help in overcoming the problem of climate change in a big way since these trees are useful and products made from sandalwood and bamboo should be used in our households.”

Highlighting the significance of the one-month Programme, Prof. D. K. Bandyopadhyay, Mentor, Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences, asserted, “The One-month Online Certification Course was highly beneficial for the students since it provided them with useful information about how they can contribute towards a clean and safe environment. Construction causes pollution, therefore making green buildings, which have minimal impact on the environment, is the need of the hour. Vertical farming, banning plastic, planting trees, recycling and reducing carbon emissions are some of the ways in which we can protect our environment and make our future secure.”

The Valedictory Session concluded with an interactive Q&A Session, wherein the students asked questions from the experts. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Tanu Jindal, Group Additional Pro Vice Chancellor R&D, AUUP, Dr. Renu Dhupper, Assistant Director, Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences (AIES) and the faculty and students of AIES.
