24th Inter Amity Institutions Sports Meet ‘Sangathan-2023' inaugurated at Amity
The 24th Inter Amity Institutions Sports Meet, “Sangathan-2023” was inaugurated at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus, with great enthusiasm. “Sangathan”, is a prestigious Sports Mega Event of Amity University in which students from Amity Campuses across India and abroad participate whole heartedly. The month-long event culminates with the celebration of Founder’s Day, observed to commemorate Birthday of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group. The aim of organizing the event is to promote a healthy competitive spirit, camaraderie and teamwork amongst the students.
During “Sangathan-2023”, 22 Sports competitions will be organized wherein a total of 33 teams from 65 institutions will participate in sports such as hockey, handball, volleyball, kho-kho, badminton, table tennis, squash, soft ball, tug of war, chess, carrom and swimming, amongst others. Yoga, Sports for Special Children and Karate have been introduced this year as part of Sangathan-2023.
Prior to the Inaugural Ceremony, the Sangathan Mashaal was lighted followed by the Mashaal Relay, flagged off by Prof (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, from Amity University Noida Campus, and after being taken through Amity International School Noida, Sector-44 and Amity University Greater Noida Campus, finally placed at the Amity Noida Campus.
To mark the occasion, the auspicious Sangathan Mashal/Khel Jyoti was handed over by Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University to the Sports Captains, Mayank Sethi and Priyanshu Mishra from Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences, under an oath by Aradhana Sahu and Sanskaar Bharadwaj, on behalf of all participants. A march past by all the participating teams and institutions was also held on this occasion.
Motivating the students of Amity, Chief Guest during the Inaugural Ceremony, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University, averred, “Sangathan stands for unity and through this event, the students develop the skills of teamwork and leadership, which are extremely crucial for their professional and personal lives. Shaking hands with the Sports Captains was an extremely proud moment since they are the leaders of tomorrow and the future of the country rests on their shoulders. All students who are participating in the mega event are a part of the history of this nation and even after 75 years when the 100th Sangathan will be celebrated, people will remember each one of them.” He called upon the participants to make friends, enjoy and live each and every moment and wished them good luck.
Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Sangathan is the most widely recognized event by the Alumni of Amity all across the world and students participate in it with great enthusiasm Amity believes in the holistic development of the students and sports events provide students a platform to showcase their skills, abilities and talent. Winning or losing is part of the game but it is the spirit of learning and facing the challenges which is more important.”
Motivating the students, Mr. Ajit Chauhan, Chairman, Amity Directorate of Distance and Online Education (ADDOE), stated, “It is one of the most exciting events at Amity and the traits of camaraderie, resilience, patience and hard work, which the students develop by participating in “Sangathan”, will empower them and play a significant role in all spheres of life.”
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities, said, “Sangathan, is one of the most historical events held at Amity was conceptualized by our honourable Founder President, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, twenty-four years ago, who has always believed that students must get the opportunity to play sports and develop the spirit of resilience, commitment, hard work and passion.” He advised the students to never give up and strive hard to achieve their goals in life.
Introducing “Sangathan-2023”, Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Chairperson, Organizing Committee, Sangathan-2023, said, “The aim of organizing Sangathan is not only to focus on the physical fitness of the students but also to develop their interpersonal skills including hard work, perseverance and tolerance. The event also focuses on the amalgamation of students of all Amity campuses and inculcates a sense of belongingness amongst them.”
Also present on the occasion were, Mr. Abhay Chauhan, Vice President, Amity Online and Mr. Amol Chauhan, Senior Vice President, Amity Capital Ventures along with the HOIs, faculty, staff and students of Amity in large numbers.
The Inaugural Ceremony concluded with an Exhibition Football Match between Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and Amity Business School and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) H.P. Singh, Co-Chairperson, Organizing Team, Sangathan.
