Experts deliberate on “Universal Holistic Health”, “Role of Media in Science & Culture” and “Science for Society and Culture”, during the
S-20 Conference, under the aegis of G20, at Amity University
Amity University organized sessions on “Universal Holistic Health”, “Role of Media in Science & Culture” and “Science for Society and Culture”, as part of the S-20 Conference, organized under the aegis of G20.
The session on “Universal Holistic Health” was Chaired by Dr. Pramod Garg, President, AIIMS, Awantipora, and the Plenary Talk was delivered by Dr. Narinder K. Mehra, former Dean AIIIMS Delhi & VP International (INSA).
Delivering the Plenary Talk, Dr. Narinder K. Mehra, former Dean AIIMS Delhi & VP International (INSA) said, “The use of new technologies in healthcare including AI is a matter of great interest and revolutionize the healthcare sector. The need of the hour is to build a regional natural of climate and health collaborators. One must think big and never be scared of failure.”
Surgeon Vice Admiral Dr. Arti Sarin, VSM, DG, Medical Services (Navy), stated, “Mental health requires compassionate and sensitive approach. The spectrum of healthcare services should include curative, preventive, promotive and holistic healthcare.”
Speaking on the importance of Ayurveda, Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, DG Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Science, Ministry of AYUSH, said, “Ayurveda comes from the ancient wisdom and has been accepted by the whole world as a popular way of treating diseases and ensuring a healthy body. The benefits of Ayurveda cannot be explained in words and it has no side effects and is completely based on natural medicines which makes it safe to use.
Dr. Kimura Kiashin, Japan Yoga Therapy Society, Japan, said, “Science transcends geographies and cultures, and we can see that today Yoga is practiced worldwide. In Japan, yoga is extremely popular and practiced by a lot of people and approximately 70 million people are practicing Yoga today.”
Dr. Ishwar Basavaraddi, Former Director, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH said, Yoga is for Sukh and Shanti, which means “Happiness and peace and it aligns the body, mind and soul. Therefore, we must spread our culture in the whole world and practice Yoga for Universal Holistic Health.”

The Session on “Role of Media in Science and Culture” was chaired by Dr. S.K. Dutta, Political, Economic and Foreign Expert.
Deliberating upon the Role of Media in Science and Culture, Shri Pallav Bagla, Science Editor, NDTV said, “In the last few weeks, the country has been inundated with the success of Chandrayaan-3 and Chndrayyan-3 and Aditya have captured our minds. We also emerged as winners during the Covid times and helped other countries too. So, this is the right time for India and the media should promote the scientific developments and report correctly.”
Emphasizing upon the goal of Science, Dr. C.M. Nautiyal, Vetrean Science Communicator, Lucknow, said, “The goal of science should promote scientific temper and media plays an important role in promoting scientific culture.”:
Highlighting the kind of stories which should be published by the media, Ms. Tulika Bhatnagar, International Correspondent, stated, “The media should be able to generate interest amongst the people and create an engaging story line which the readers and audience would like to read about. Also, the tone and connotation should be kept in mind while articulating media stories. Instead of spreading misinformation, the right information should be provided to the people. “
Rhythma Kaul, Deputy Health Editor, Hindustan Times, opined, “Media acts as a bridge between science and society. The language used by the media should be very simple for the masses to understand easily. Media is propagating the information through various tools today including podcasts, videos, pictographics and present it in an interesting way. “
Dr. Arnab Goswami, Editor-in Chief, Republic TV, said, “Every citizen must be proud of India and its huge achievements since India is at a very bright spot today. We must be optimistic about India’s future and should never listen to false or negative stories. Belief lies at the core of success so one has to believe in themselves and never take anything for granted. Truth must be projected and India’s achievements and victories must be celebrated during these great times. We must be proud of our culture, heritage and traditions since our time has come and the students, the youth of the country must lead India with an extremely positive mindset.”
The session on “Science for Society and Culture” was chaired by Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Hon’ble Minister NITI Ayog, and addressing the gathering he said, “The world needs a rapid global transformation to a new development paradigm of human prosperity within the safe space on earth. A strong and effective Science & technology base make India globally competitive and ensure the National Security. Knowledge generated out of science and technology has high impact on economic growth and social development leading to improved living standards. “
Deliberating upon the theme, Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary SERB, said, “The theme of today’s conference is very apt and there is a strong connect between Science and Culture. Private Universities are doing great research work and are today no less than government Universities. Mission Chndrayaan-3 has raised people’s expectations and therefore, Indian scientist must work hard to achieve success in all their endeavours. “
Dr. S. K. Varshney, head, International Cooperation, DST, opined, “The budding scientists need to contribute to the society and not just develop new technologies and innovations. We need to create a sustainable future by reducing pesticides, we need to address the availability of food and make it available at affordable prices. Also, the testing and screening medical facilities in villages need to be improved. “
In addition, a Debate Competition for school students was also organized at Amity, wherein the students participated enthusiastically and won prizes.
