Amity Law School, Amity University Uttar Pradesh Noida organized a two-day Inter University Debate Competition, Verbum Bellum 3.0, on the theme “Celebrating India’s Presidency of G-20”. "Verbam Bellum" is a French term which means "War of Words" and the objective of the debate competition was to spread awareness amongst the students about the significance of India’s G-20 Presidency and to provide them a platform to go beyond the classrooms and deliberate upon the role and contribution of India in creating an inclusive and sustainable world, thereby developing their critical thinking on international politics and improving their presentation skills.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri Yogendra Upadhyay, Minister of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, averred, “It is matter of immense pride and honour for India to host the G-20 Summit. India believes in the philosophy of “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam”, which has been accepted by the whole world today. India has transformed as a country, has reached the moon and secured its position as the fifth largest economy in the world under the visionary guidance of our Hon’ble Prime Minister. India is becoming a prosperous country and Indians are instilled with a deep sense of patriotism. Amity is doing great service to the nation by nurturing future leaders by imparting practical education which is extremely crucial for the students. Every citizen of the country must fulfill their responsibilities with a deep sense of sincerity and commitment since this is what true patriotism means.”
Sharing her views on India’s G-20 Presidency, Prof. (Dr.) Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, stated, “India is leading the whole world by its example of how to do research and science economically, without spending huge amounts of money. This is the best phase of the country since it is in its transformatory phase and now is the time when we can advance knowledge and learning through strategic partnerships. There is a paradigm shift in the education system of Uttar Pradesh and even southern states like Tamil Nadu are also learning from the education system of Uttar Pradesh. G-20 Summit accounts for 2/3rd of the world population and 85% of the world’s GDP, therefore, it is one of the most important summit which is being hosted by India. India has the oldest roots of civilization and culture in the world and has the potential to become the most developed nation of the world.”
Sharing his words of wisdom with the students, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group, said, “Amity is deeply committed to the holistic development of its students and get the motivation to work hard since we believe that each student can be a great success story. Amity has coined the term “BHAAG” which gives the mantra for success, wherein B stands for ‘Behavioral Science’, H stands for ‘hard work’, A for ‘ambition’, A for ‘positive attitude and G for ‘faith in God’. Every student has the potential to succeed and achieve whatever they want in life if they follow the mantra of BHAAG.”
Emphasizing upon the various initiatives taken by the Hon’ble Prime Minister for India’s development, Dr. Deepak Gosain, Former Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Parliament of India, asserted, “India is a unique and diverse country and we are proud of our culture and traditions. The Presidency of G-20 has given an opportunity to India to become a harbinger of global peace and security. Challenges can be addressed by collaborations, debate, dialogue, consultation and technology adoption and Verbum Bellum aims to inculcate these skills amongst the students. Initiatives such as ‘Digital India’ , ‘Start up Eco System’, ‘Make in India’ have put India on the forefront and on the road to development.”
Highlighting the significance of India’s G-20 Presidency, Shri Gopal Krishna Agarwal, Economist and National Spokesperson of Bhartiya Janta Party, opined, “G-20 is a highly significant platform to strengthen trade ties amongst nations, wherein a majority of G-20 institutions are promoting businesses with a great vision. Through the G-20 Summit, India has got the opportunity to showcase its rich culture, art and traditions to the whole world. For law students, public policy is an important domain which they should work at so as to contribute to nation building. Students must be aware of the sectors which will propel the growth of the country and align themselves with those sectors through which India will lead global development.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “G-20 is the outcome of collaborative efforts of different nations, which will help in promoting peace, security and harmony in the world. Amity is a futuristic institution and much before NEP 2020 was announced, Amity had already implemented its mandates and features such as multi-disciplinary approach, holistic education and other features of the NEP 2020. Students must align their goals with national goals and the day is not far when not only will become a global superpower but also a “Vishwa Guru’.”
