Amity University organized a Panel Discussion on the theme, ‘National Freedom Struggle’ on the eve of India’s 77th Independence Day, with the aim to spread awareness about the national freedom struggle and highlight the valuable contribution of the freedom fighters in India’s Freedom Movement.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Rajesh Tandon, Former Judge, Uttarakhand High Court, averred, “Independence Day holds a special significance and Article 51A of the Constitution of India urges each citizen of the country to “cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our nation’s struggle for freedom. Today, India is on the path of immense economic development and becoming “self-reliant” (Aatm Nirbhar) and the entire world is looking towards India and praising its commendable growth journey.”

Emphasizing upon the contribution of women Dr. Amita Tiwari, Head of Department (Hindi), Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, stated, “The contribution of women in India’s freedom struggle cannot be overlooked. Rani Lakshmibai, with her fearless and valiant attitude fought against the Britishers and set an example not only for the women of India but also the women of the entire world. Amongst other notable women who have contributed immensely to the country’s freedom movement are Begum Hazrat Mahal, Aruna Asaf Ali, Sucheta Kriplani, Sarojini Naidu, Durga Bhabhi, and many others who symbolize women empowerment and whose remarkable contribution can never be forgotten.”

Sharing his views on the occasion, Mr. Jatan Singh, Vice President, Delhi High Court Bar Association, opined, “On the eve of Independence Day, it is our responsibility to take a pledge to make our country proud in some way or the other. We must cherish and value the freedom which we got after a lot of challenges and struggle and pay tribute to the freedom fighters who gave us a free and independent country.”

Highlighting the significance of celebrating Independence Day, Mrs. Rashmi Verma, Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly, asserted, “Independence Day is an occasion for the citizens to feel proud of their national heroes and leaders who fought bravely for the country’s freedom till their last breath. Amity University has aptly chosen the theme to commemorate India’s independence since it is essential to remember the freedom struggle of the great leaders and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.”

Dr. D. K. Bandyopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law School, opined, “India’s glory was spread far and wide before the British rule. However, during the British rule India lost its glory but now is the time when India can regain its lost glory through united efforts of every citizen of the country.
