Experts deliberate upon “Translational Research and Commercialization in the Indian University Ecosystem: A Solution Approach via Policy and Strategy Recommendation”, at Amity
Department of Science and Technology (DST) has established one of its Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) and a Satellite Centre for Policy Research at Amity University, Noida Campus. Working towards fulfilling the aim of Technology Enabling Centre and the Satellite Centre for Policy Research, Directorate of Innovation and Technology Transfer (DITT), Amity University, organized two Panel Discussions on the topic “Translational Research and Commercialization in the Indian University Ecosystem: A Solution Approach via Policy and Strategy Recommendation.”
The esteemed panelists included Prof. Nalinaksh S. Vyas, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, Dr. H. Purushotham, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) IPR Chair, Andhra University, Prof. Rupinder Tewari, Mentor, DST-TEC, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. Anil Wali, Managing Director, Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT)-IIT Delhi, Dr. Sudha Mysore, CEO, Agriinovate India Limited, Mr. Arun Chaudhary, Director, Directorate of Industry Interface & Technology Management(DIITM), DRDO and Mr. Nirankar Saxena, Dy. Secretary General, FICCI.
Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr. Anita Agarwal, Head, Technology Development and Transfer, DST, GoI, averred, “It is essential to develop a framework for Technology Enabling Centres and DST has been involved in this task since 2017. Societal readiness and industry readiness is also crucial before a technology is transferred to the industry so that the industry can accept and adopt it. Therefore, creating a supportive University Ecosystem is important and recommendations must be given to the government which can help in designing the programs in the development of these centres.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rabindra K. Panigrahi, Scientist E, Policy Coordination & Programme Management (PCPM), DST, GoI, stated, “Technology Enabling Centres create an Ecosystem for technology development in Universities and provide a networking platform for researchers of various institutions. Department of Science and Technology has been formulating various policies for Technology Enabling Centres by establishing centres of Policy Research to carry out their research work and provides complete support to the policy researchers as well.”
Recommending Strategies to develop Technology Enabling Centres at Universities, Prof. Nalinaksh S. Vyas, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, stated, “State-of-the- art infrastructure, strength of the ecosystem of the Universities, including good quality laboratories, human resource and the quality of its students are some of the key aspects to be considered for establishing Technology Enabling Centres. In addition, timely assessment of the University Ecosystem helps in identifying the areas for improvement and work upon those areas.”
Sharing his views on the occasion, Dr. H. Purushotham, DPIIT, IPR Chair, Andhra University, asserted, “Universities must follow a culture of innovation, led by visionary leaders in order to develop a Technology Enabling Centre. Apart from this, building a team with a shared vision and allocating funds is also an important criterion for establishing Technology Enabling Centres which can focus on providing an enabling eco system, effective process and a great support system to the Universities.”
Chairing the Panel Discussion, Dr W. Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, said, “The objective of Technology Enabling Centre is to create an ecosystem for the development and transfer of Technologies. DST’s Satellite Centre for Policy Research at Amity University is striving towards supporting Research Translation and Technology Transfer by exploring new policy initiatives. Therefore, the Panel Discussion holds great significance since valuable recommendations for the establishment of technology Enabling Centre will be provided by the esteemed Panelists, which will be helpful in facilitating Technology Transfers and commercialization.”
The Panel Discussions were attended by the scientists, researchers and HOI’s of Amity and it concluded with felicitation of the guests and a Vote of Thanks.
