Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister visits Amity University

Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus, along with his colleagues, to share his inspirational journey and motivate the students of Amity.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, averred, “Amity University is a leading institution established under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, who is an inspirational educationist of the country. Earlier, the number of private institutions in the country was very few, however, today, there has been a huge upsurge in the number of private institutions in the country. The country has made great strides, and the academic strengths and technological capabilities have also developed immensely in the last few years. Twenty years ago, only IITs were the front runners in technology but today the scenario has changed and many private institutions are working relentlessly in the field of science & technology. Today, 80% of students of IITs are not going abroad to work and instead, want to work in their own country, which is very encouraging and crucial for the economic development of the country. Most of the students are working in diverse areas including automobiles, manufacturing industry, information technology and other related areas. Amity has taken a lead in introducing programmes in Defence Technology which is contributing immensely to the development of the country. Drone technology has also emerged in a big way in the last few years. The country has developed its own aircraft carriers such as INS Vikrant and developed missiles such as the Brahmos which have put India on the forefront in space research and innovation in the world. DRDO is working with many academic institutions and there is a need for industry-academia collaboration to work together for establishing Centers of Excellence.”

Speaking about “Make in India” and “Aatm Nirbhar” initiatives by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Dr. Reddy further added, “Make in India” and “Aatm Nirbhar” initiatives by the Hon’ble Prime Minister have resulted in immense economic development of the country. The young entrepreneurs are also establishing their own start-ups in the country, in sync with these initiatives. With institutions like Amity having their own Incubation Centres, a lot of impetus has been provided to the students to start their own ventures. Students are doing extensive research in various fields and their projects are getting funded by the government, which is a huge step towards the development of the country. In 2016 there were only 460 start-ups but now there are more than 90,000 start-ups in the country, out of which around 100 start-ups are working in the field of Defence Technology. However, even today 80-90% hospital equipment is imported, therefore India must develop its own equipment including the ICUs and ventilators in order to become self-sufficient in healthcare. Before the pandemic, very few PPE kits were manufactured in India but now approximately 6 lakh PPE kits are being manufactured per day in India.” He called upon the youngsters of the country to take the lead since the future of the country depends on them. He also emphasized upon the development of path-breaking technologies and innovations to fill the existing gaps in material technology, transmission technology, detectors technology, sensors technology, processing and manufacturing technology.

Emphasizing upon the role of educational institutions in the development of the country, he asserted, “Today, there are many Indian institutions placed in global rankings and India is seen as a great destination for academic excellence. The need of the hour is to promote the scientific research in the country and academic institutions such as Amity must play an instrumental role in bringing new research outcomes.”

Interacting with the students and sharing his inspirational journey, Dr. Reddy, said, “Sincerity, hard work and focus are the mantras for achieving success in any field and small, consistent steps lead to huge achievements.” Responding to a question regarding his contribution during the Pandemic, Dr. Reddy said, “Scientific research in defense has grown immensely in the last few years and a lot of new defense technologies have been developed.
