6th National Conference on “Sustainable Development Goals: A Multi-disciplinary Ingress-2023” held at Amity

 Amity School of Economics (ASE), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Noida organized its 6th National Conference on "Sustainable Development Goals: A Multidisciplinary Ingress - 2023” from 4th to 5th April 2023. In line with its theme of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), the Conference aimed to generate widespread awareness about the importance and relevance of SDGs towards achieving socio-economic growth and development and to encourage and motivate young budding researchers to understand the challenges and the solution to achieve SDGs.

 

Emphasizing upon the significance of SDGs, Guest of Honor, Ms. Priti Srivastava, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs at Reliance Industries Ltd., averred, “Today the world is facing a lot of issues including climate change, Russia-Ukraine war and the Pandemic, however, the problem of achieving sustainability is a major challenge in today’s scenario. The government has decided that the next few years will completely focus on sustainability. The company, Reliance is also dedicated to the promotion of sustainability by overcoming the problems of greenhouse gas emissions and water sanitation. The company stringently follows sustainable practices such as recycling of plastic, use of eco-friendly products and plantation of trees. Business must be done responsibly, and growth must be sustainable, without harming the environment. It is heartening to see that at Amity, Tulsi saplings are gifted to the guests which fosters sustainability. Individual responsibility is more important than Corporate Social Responsibility therefore it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the environment by becoming more mindful in their daily lives and adopting sustainable practices such as watering the plants by rainwater and using eco-friendly products.”

 

Highlighting the significance of Mr. Sandeep Srivastava, Head -ESG, EverEnviro Resource Management, asserted, “Environmental issues such as climate change, resource depletion, air pollution, increasing waste burden and growing population are affecting our economy. Climate change is setting new records of floods and droughts every year and rising temperatures are creating new challenges. By July 28, 2022, humanity had already exhausted all the natural resources which earth continuously generates and this is called Earth Overshoot Day, which means that mankind will put a discrete burden on the earth for the rest of the year. Sustainable consumption and production, is the need of the hour, which implies the use of services and products that meet the basic needs, improve quality of life, thereby reducing the impact of waste and pollutants.”

 

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr S. P. Sharma Chief Economist | DSG PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated, “Sustainable development of a country is built on many parameters including the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals, which is the most crucial. Post independence, new reforms, industrialization, liberalization accelerated our economy and today we are the fastest growing economy in the world. Flexibility and durability are the RNA and DNA of any economy. At present, all private institutions and the government are making efforts for sustainable development and use of green technology is getting a boost. Students must also contribute in every possible way to ensure that the water and air must be free of pollutants, more trees are planted, and eco-friendly products are used.”

 

Welcoming the guests on this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Kavita Indapurkar, Joint Administrator, Amity School of Economics, said, “The Conference has been organized to provide an interdisciplinary forum on global sustainable development for practitioners and academics to advance knowledge and foster the importance of harnessing innovation and technology to attain Sustainable Development Goals and to propose multidisciplinary policies for economic, socio-political, cultural, and institutional changes for facilitating deeper understanding. 

 

During the two-day conference Panel Discussions on themes such as “People Participation in achieving SDG’s”, “Sustainable Development and Social Innovation in Business Ethos”, “Sustainable Development and enabling technologies in Marketing”, “Sustainable Development Goals and Socio-Economic Aspects & Entrepreneurship”, and “Sustainable Development and Social Innovation in Finance and Accounting” will also be conducted by renowned experts including  Ms. Subhra Das Senior Project Manager | Operations & CE Saahas Zero Waste, Dr. Nassir Ul Haq Wani Director, Research and Development, & Professor, School of Graduate Studies Kardan University, Kabul Afghanistan, Dr. Isha Jaswal Associate Professor, VIPS, IP University, Dr. Mahesh Kadam, Associate Professor Head, Centre for Entrepreneurship Dev, VAM Institute of cooperative Management( Ministry of Cooperation) and many others.
