Singer and Politician Manoj Tiwari, enthralls the audience during the Valediction of Amity Youth Fest -2023

 Amity University organized the Amity Youth Fest -2023 from 31stMarch-1st April 2023 Youth, with the aim to hone the skills and nurture the talent of the students of Amity for their holistic development, through various activities. During the two-day fest, more than 135 competitions were organized wherein more than 13,000 students from Amity campuses across the globe participated, including 200 teams from 35 countries. The events included inter-institutional and cultural competitions organized at national level, Workshops, Start-up expos, Solo Singing Competitions, Painting and Digital Art Competition, Quiz Competitions, Sports Competitions, Amity International Literature Festival, and various other engaging activities and events.

 

Sharing his success story with the students, Guest of Honor, Shri Manoj Tiwari, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and BJP Leader, stated, “I come from a very small town in Bihar and never imagined that I will become a successful singer and politician. I’m also a sports person but I’m recognized for my singing talent and people always want to hear my songs, which are very popular among the masses. I composed songs on female foeticide, corruption and cleanliness of the river Ganges, and laws on all these were made and passed by the Parliament. Amity, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, has scaled great heights and is one of the most reputed institutions in the world.” He enthralled the audience with his popular Bhojpuri songs and called upon the students to join politics since their contribution to the country will make it a developed nation, in sync with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision.

 

Encouraging the students of Amity, Mr Madan Lal, Arjun Awardee, 1983 Winning Cricket World Cup Squad, Indian National Cricket Coach, averred, “Champion minds are different since they decide what kind of life you want to lead. Discipline is of utmost importance for becoming successful along with good health and one must prioritize one’s health and fitness and remain physically active. Only a healthy body can nurture a healthy mind. Developing a healthy competitive spirit is also essential since we only learn and grow when we compete.” Citing his own example, he further added, “My left arm was fractured during the World Cup 1983, still I played with my other arm and India won the World Cup despite many challenges and hardships, which was a proud, memorable moment for every Indian. Therefore, if one wants to excel in any field, performance is the only thing which matters, and nothing is impossible if you are strongly determined.”

 

Highlighting the key attributes for being a successful person, Ms Khayati Gulani, BCCI, Cricket Australia and NCA qualified coach, stated, “Women are not encouraged to play sports in our country. However, today the scenario has changed since the women’s Cricket Team has made our country proud by performing very well at international level. Focus and determination are the essential attributes required for a person to be successful.”

 

Sharing her inspirational journey in Paralympics, Mrs Suvarna Raj, National Award Winner International Para Athlete, asserted, “Physically challenged people are seen as a burden on the society and are considered inferior to others. However, by developing a positive mindset, one can overcome all the hurdles and can excel in any field. I feel proud to have won the internationals paralympic competitions, thereby making my parents and country proud. “

 

Motivating the students of Amity, Mr. Pradeep Raj, National Award Winner Para Athlete, “Paralympics players face a lot of challenges since it is not easy to find accessible stadiums. Today, Wheelchair cricket is very popular and has gained worldwide recognition by the sports fraternity. Physically challenged people who are strongly determined, are doing extremely well in Paralympics. Therefore, students must come forward and support Paralympics by becoming the mentor and supporting the players of Paralympic Sports. “

 

Sharing his words of wisdom, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group, stated, “Amity Youth Fest is the most vibrant and visually attractive events, organized by Amity students where they showcase their talent and creativity. Sports are a great learning platform and by following sports one can learn about the strategies to be adopted and team spirit to be inculcated. Today, after listen to such accomplished and inspiring personalities, students will be highly motivated and get inspired by success stories shared by the esteemed dignitaries. Amity firmly believes that by the year 2030, India will become a global superpower and the students and faculty of Amity are playing a crucial role in contributing to the scientific and economic development of the country.”

 

Highlighting the significance of Amity Youth Fest, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “The two-day AYF ’23 witnessed a lot of vibrant and energetic events organized by the students of Amity, wherein they participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. Right from planning to execution, the event was meticulously planned and organized by the students which shows their exemplary efforts and skills in conducting an event of such big scale and stature. Fests like AYF inculcate the attributes of team spirit, competitive spirit and help the students in brushing up their interpersonal skills by making them more confident and disciplined.”

 

During AYF’23, several competitions were organized by various institutions of Amity which included a chef competition, “Egg-nnovation”, organized by Amity Institute of Hospitality and Management, wherein students had to make snacks, main courses and desserts by showcasing their culinary skills. Around 20 teams including Banarasi Das Chandiwala Institute, SRM Institute of Catering and Technology, The Lalit Suri Hospitality School, Jaipur National University etc. participated in the competition and the jury comprised of Mr. Sunil Kumar Arora, Operation Head Chef, CCI Learning, Anuj Kapoor, Executive Chef, Radisson Hotel and Mr. Roshan Kumar, Executive Chef, Crown Plaza.

 

In addition, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences organized two events, “Shutterfest” and “SCI-Land”, wherein more than 200 students participated. While Amity Institute of Social Sciences and Geografica Club organized inter-institutional GeoMapia (Map Quiz) event, wherein 13 teams from various colleges and institutions participated, Amity Institute of English Studies and Research organized a two-day Literary Quiz for the students and a workshop on “Movement-based Expressive Art Therapy” was also organized by Amity School of Psychology and Allied Sciences, as part of AYF ’23. The Cultural Programmes comprised of “Swarmanthan” (Light Vocal Solo Singing), “Swarmala” (Light Vocal Solo Indian Singing), “Reverberate” (Western Solo Singing), “Oscillation” (Group Western Dance Competition), “Nrityarsh” (Solo Indian Classical Dance), “Symphony” (Battle of Bands) and “Rangraise”

(a folk-dance competition).

 

Winners of the participating teams in various sports competitions organized by Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences were also awarded during the Valedictory Programme of AYF’23. In Women’s Basketball Championship, Ramjas College of Delhi was awarded the first prize, while Shriram College of Commerce was awarded the second prize. While Amity University team bagged the first prize and Hindu College, Delhi University, was awarded the second prize in Men's Basketball Competition. Gargi College bagged the first prize and Mata Sundari College bagged the second prize in Women’s Volleyball competition. In Men’s Volleyball Competition, SRS Meerut team was declared the winners and Amity University stood second, whereas, in Women’s Football Championship, Kamla Nehru College bagged the first prize and Amity University were declared the first runners up.

 

Also present on the occasion was Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities, along with Senior Faculty and HOIs of Amity University.  The welcome address was delivered by Prof (Dr) Marshal Sahni, Chairperson AYF’23 and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mrs Chhaya Chordia, Chairperson University Cultural Club. A Report of the Activities held during AYF-2023 was presented by Prof (Dr) Aditya Tomer, Co-Chairperson, AYF’23, during the Valedictory Programme.
