Speaking during the “International Women’s Week Conclave”, Air Marshall, Dr. Arti Sarin, Indian Air Force, said, “I come from a humble background, but my parents never differentiated between me and my brothers. Earlier, the number of women of women in the Armed Forces used to be very less but now, more and more women are joining the forces. It is extremely important for women to be digitally savvy since the development of the nation rests on technology. Women constantly need to upgrade their digital skills and become empowered in every sense so that they can lead the world. It is only through gender equality that India will become a developed nation.”
Highlighting the significance of digital empowerment of women, Dr. B.K. Sapra, Head of Division, Radiological Physics and Advisory Division (RPAD), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), averred, “Through digital empowerment of women, women’s right can be protected since women will become aware of their rights and speak up for justice. A few decades ago, more men opted to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), but now women are also studying these subjects and doing very well in their career. According to the latest data and statistics, 38% of women face online harassment in India and 9 out of 10 women limit their online activity due to the same. 44% of women still do not know how to make digital payments, therefore, the scholarships and reservation for women in private and government organizations should be increased so that they can enroll for digital programmes and become educated. Govt. initiatives like “Stand up India”, “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, are working towards the empowerment of women and there were almost 8.59 lakh women-led MSMEs in 2022 which shows an increase from the year 2021.”
Emphasizing upon the need for women empowerment, Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan, National President, Women’s Wing, BJP, said, “Digital technology has transformed the entire world and it is heartening to see that women in rural areas are also using technology including ATM Cards. There is a bigger digital connectivity and crores of women are getting access to financial inclusion through technology. The successful vaccination drive in India was an example of how technologically advanced we are, as a nation, as e-certificates were provided instantly to all those who got vaccinated. Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India has led to the technological advancement of the country, which has provided an impetus to women empowerment. Women have to lead the society and nation, therefore, they must stand up on their feet and become self-reliant in every area.”
Smt. Anju Chaudhary, Vice Chairperson, State Women Commission, UP & Ex-Mayor of Gorakhpur, said, “Both genders are equally important to strike a balance on planet earth. Therefore, discrimination against women is highly unfair at all levels. Violence against women must be stopped and criminals should be severely punished. Women must raise their voice against all injustice and fight for their rights.”
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh said, “During the ancient times, women were worshipped in the form of goddesses but over the years, the gender gap between men and women increased. There is an urgent need to change the mindset, specially in the rural areas where discrimination against women is still rampant. Women are multi-taskers, creators and nurturers and both genders have well-defined roles. At Amity, many facilities are provided to women so that they can manage their homes and families along with work. Women Scientists and researchers of Amity have played an integral role in making it one of the best institutions in the world.
