“Cancer Awareness Program” held at Amity on the occasion of World Cancer Day

 

Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida organized a “Cancer Awareness Programme” on the occasion of World Cancer Day, with the aim to spread awareness about cancer, emphasize on the importance of early diagnosis, its causes and treatment.

 

Highlighting the significance of the Programme, Prof. (Dr.) B. C. Das, Director, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP), said, “During cancer, cells in the human body grow at an uncontrolled and abnormal rate, however, early detection can prevent the advancement of the disease and is the key to prevention. Today, there are several Indian vaccines which have been developed by the researchers for the successful prevention of the disease. Spreading awareness about cancer is extremely crucial so that people become more alert and vigilant and detect the disease in its early stages.”

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Subhrajit Biswas, Deputy Director, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research, said, “People should not be scared of cancer since most cancers are completely curable if detected at an early stage. Therefore, instead of panicking, one must go for a proper treatment, exercise caution and lead a healthy lifestyle.”

 

Prof. Manoj Garg, Assistant Director, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research, stated, “Spreading awareness about cancer is essential to prevent the disease and the Program will be helpful in providing information about the various types of cancers, the importance of early diagnosis, its causes and prevention.”

 

On this occasion, a Quiz Competition and Poster Competitions were also held wherein Sheen Razdan, Latika Dhiman, Muskan Arora and Dr. Anuradha were awarded the first, second, third and fourth prizes, in the Quiz Competition. In the Poster-making Competition, Kritika was awarded the first prize, Avantika bagged the second prize, the third prize went to Ibha and Amar and the fourth prize was awarded to Komal and Abha.

In addition, a skit was also performed by the students of Amity depicting the causes of cancer, its ill-effects and steps for prevention of the disease, along with a March-Past wherein the faculty and students of Amity participated wholeheartedly, saying aloud the slogan “Detect early, save life.”
