Amity School of Communication and Amity School of Film and Drama, in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, organize the First International Film Festival-2022- “The Promethean Space”

 

Amity School of Communication (ASCO) and Amity School of Film & Drama (ASFD), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus, in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, are organizing the First International Film Festival – 2022, “The Promethean Space”, from 15th-16th December, to celebrate the art of filmmaking with special screening of the selected movies, documentaries and live sessions with renowned filmmakers and critics.

Out of the total 200 movies received, around 30 movies from various countries including Spain, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France, Italy, Egypt, Myanmar, Kuwait, Switzerland, Andorra, Netherlands, and Syria, will be showcased during the two-day visual extravaganza. The spectrum of genres being showcased ranges from documentaries as well as short films based on various categories including “environment”, “urban mobility”, “technology”, “health”, and “green living” and “understanding minds”.  Some of the movies shortlisted for screening during the two-day festival including “Aziz” from France, “White Butterfly” and “Under the Hands” from Spain, “The White Monster” from Madrid, “Plums and Green Smoke” from Chile. A short film comprising of congratulatory messages and best wishes by eminent personalities including renowned filmmaker Mr. Vivek Agnihotri, critically acclaimed Film Actor Mr. Rajesh Tailang, Mr. Ashish Kundra, IAS, Principal Secretary, New Delhi, Mr. Naveen Kumar (IAS), Special Secretary Health(Govt. of Andhra Pradesh) and renowned film maker Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar, amongst others, was also screened during the Inaugural Programme.

Inaugurating the Film Festival, Mr. Nimish Kapoor, Sr. Scientist, Vigyan Prasar, asserted, “Vigyan Prasar aims to reach out to the masses and connect them to science and scientists. Now, Vigyan Prasar has also launched India’s first OTT Science Channel, India Science, which aims to promote science and technology. The films and documentaries on the latest developments in Science, reach the masses and create widespread awareness.” Sharing the success mantra for making a good film, he said, “The content of a film is the father, and the script is the mother, therefore, the purpose of making a particular film, must be borne in mind by the budding filmmakers, since films have a huge impact on the minds of the audience, thereby impacting the society at large.”

 

Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Programme, Mrs. Pooja Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Film and Drama, averred, “Both Vigyan Prasar and Amity are working in the area of science and innovation, which is extremely crucial for the development of the country. Scientific growth and film aesthetics go hand in hand. Topics like “sustainability”, “urban mobility” “green energy”, “technology” and “environment” are important issues today. Films are a good medium to portray the problems of the world and find solutions to them through the medium of art. The art of film making involves a lot of planning, hard work and passion which must be inculcated amongst the students who want to pursue film making as a career. Amity plans to make this an annual event and organize it every year for the benefit of the students.”

 

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Mr. R.K. Suresh, Eminent Tamil Film Producer, Actor and Politician, who heads the Production Company, Studio 9, said, “Content is crucial when it comes to a film as the film’s success is decided by its content. Acting is a continuous learning process, and I am highly inspired by great actors like Rajnikanth and Kamal Hasan, from whom I constantly learn new techniques of acting. Today, OTT has emerged as a great medium for showcasing movies, short films and documentaries which have a huge impact on the minds of the audience and inspires them to reflect on the burning issues and find solutions.”

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Amity is a research and innovation driven University, where brilliant scientists are working day and night on various subjects for the benefit of the society, thereby contributing to nation-building. The festival is an endeavour for a fruitful collaboration between art and science, through which filmmakers showcase the major concerns of today’s world and try to find a solution. The two-day of the film festival will be full of learning and knowledge for the students and they must make the best use of this opportunity. The event will serve as a grand platform for the exchange of ideas between filmmakers, scientists, and young film enthusiasts.

Welcoming the guests, Prof. (Dr.) Mehak Jonjua, Asst. Director (Academics), Amity School of Communication, said, “This is the First Edition of Amity International Film Festival, where we have received more than 200 movies from different countries of the world, out of which 30 films have been selected for screening during these two days. The aim of this International Film Festival is to celebrate the art of filmmaking and highlight their significance in the society. Documentaries, as well as short films based on science, technology, health, and environmental issues, will be screened during the two-day festival, with the objective of fostering a better public understanding of the existing issues of the world, encouraging citizen science and promoting films based on scientific topics.”

During the two-day festival, interactive and insightful sessions will be held on topics such as “#WokeCinema” and “Cutting the Chord: OTT Revolution”, by renowned experts, including Mr. Sabyasachi Bharati, Deputy Director, CMS, Vatavaran, Film Actor Mr. Akshat Chopra, Mr. Ankit Chaturvedi, Co-founder, Hungry Wolves Entertainment, Ms. Jyoti Kapoor, Script Writer and Former Journalist, Mr. Ajay Chitnis, Documentary Film Maker, Ms. Bandana Tiwari, Script Writer and Producer and Mr. Varun Gupta, Film Director. A panel of renowned film experts will also judge the participating films and documentaries and awards will be presented to the winners during the Valedictory Programme.
