Amity School of Architecture and Planning, Amity University Uttar Pradesh inks an MoU with Confederation of Indian Industry- Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC)

 

Amity School of Planning and Architecture, Amity University Uttar Pradesh signed an MoU with Confederation of Indian Industry -Indian Green Building Council(IGBC). The objective of the MoU is to train the faculty and students to obtain certification so that they become IGBC accredited professional associates and faculty, in line with the Sustainable Global Agenda under SDG -11. The partnership will also facilitate the extension and outreach activities towards Green Built Environment and undertake industry-academia interactions for a sustainable future

Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Session, Mr. Sachin Sharma, Chairman Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), Western UP Chapter, stated, “Green education and “Sustainability” are the buzzwords today as the adverse impact of climate change can be seen on the environment. The challenge is to make new buildings sustainable by going back to the roots and learning from history how sustainable structures were created in the past, which have stood the test of time and are still standing tall in a good condition. IGBC is playing an integral role in taking the green initiatives forward and working towards a sustainable environment. The future generation must put their best efforts in tis direction and come forward enthusiastically to devise new strategies for ensuring a sustainable environment. The MoU will increase the employability of students in the field of Architecture and also enable them to contribute towards a clean environment.”

Emphasizing upon the role of “Green Education”, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, averred, “The MoU will further strengthen the long-standing relationship between Amity and Confederation of Indian Industry as Amity already has CII School of Logistics and the Supply Chain Management. Industry-Academia partnership is crucial for the growth of an institution and for ensuring a bright future for its students. The knowledge attained in an institution must be applied in the industry, only then it becomes fruitful and relevant. The MoU will not only foster the enhancement of skills of architecture students but will also be highly beneficial in providing opportunities to the students who want to set-up their own start-ups. It is extremely essential to align the development of Urban Infrastructure with Sustainable Development Goals-11, so that eco-friendly and sustainable infrastructure is created, and a healthy environment is secured for all living beings. Comprehensive planning, integrated approach and holistic development of Urban Infrastructure is the need of the hour.” 

Highlighting the significance of the Signing of MoU, Prof. (Dr.) Amit Hajela, Director, Amity School of Planning and Architecture, said, “Amity School of Planning and Architecture is committed to contributing towards the Mission Programmes of Govt. of India and efforts are being made in preparing the Agenda 2030, under SDG 11.The aim of this MoU is to develop and offer a ‘Practical & Industry Oriented Course’ on ‘Green Built Environment’ for Architecture & Planning students. It also focusses on training nominated faculty from the college on the concepts of green built environment and certify them as ‘Accredited Faculty’ and a course on 'Green Built Environment' will be offered with the support of the Accredited Faculty. It will also provide classroom training and online courses, facilitate practical exposure by guest industry experts and site visits and prepare the students to become ‘Industry-ready IGBC Accredited Professional - Associate’.”

During the one-day Programme, Technical Sessions on topics such as “Buildings of Future”, “Transitioning towards a Low Carbon and Sustainable Future” and “Updates on Green Building Movement Green Buildings opportunities for Educational Institutes and way forward”, were also held and the programme concluded with an interactive Q&A Session between the experts and the students of Amity.
