Amity Law School, Amity University Uttar Pradesh organized the 5th Edition of a Two-day Transdisciplinary International Conference on the theme "Coherence of Global Sustainability - A Way Forward", on virtual platform.
This year’s conference, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs-17), aimed to address and provide solutions for the significant intertwined global sustainability issues in other streams too such as policy, economics, gender rules and sociology, by developing an understanding of transdisciplinary approach for knowledge building, with a focus on sustainability.
Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr James J. Nedumpara, Professor & Head of Centre for Trade and Investment, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, said, “International Trade should be carried out in an extremely careful manner, whereby the environment should not be harmed in anyway, conservation of resources being the top priority. Also, the people living in that environment should not face any repercussions or adverse consequences due to the ongoing business deals. The use, production and consumption of goods and commodities must be environment friendly, keeping in mind the objective of sustainable development.”
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mr. Parth Raman, Policy Advisor, United Nations, Founder and Director of Council for Policy Research and Analysis, stated, “Sustainability implies maintaining the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future and such maintenance is the functional requirement of society without which the social and financial systems are deemed to collapse. Therefore, the need of the hour is to understand the role of law in ensuring a sustainable society and nation by working towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals.”
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Hon’ble Vice-chancellor, Amity University, averred, “With Technological Advancement and synthetic development of mankind, exploitation of natural resources has accelerated exponentially. Therefore, the means to enhance and mandate such preservation gravitates around the principle of sustainability. Given the current relevance of sustainability in all the spheres of human existence, it becomes pertinent for academia too to rethink and assess our present situation and plan for the future. Various national and international Organizations have taken the lead in sensitizing and formulating policies for assimilating economic, environment and other related areas to attain sustainability. Transdisciplinary approach promotes the capacity to integrate knowledge and modes of thinking derived from two or more disciplines for a cognitive advancement. Adopting this approach is the need of the hour as it takes into consideration several aspects and aims at finding holistic solutions.”
