Eminent Educationists deliberate on “Empowering the Teachers: A perspective of NEP -2020”, to commemorate Teachers’ Day at Amity

Amity University Uttar Pradesh celebrated Teachers’ Day from 5th-9th September 2022 and to mark the occasion, a Panel Discussion on the theme, “Empowering the Teachers: A perspective of NEP -2020” was conducted during the Inaugural Session, wherein eminent educationists and academicians came forward and shared their views on the theme.
Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Session, Prof. T. V. Kattimani, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Andhra Pradesh, said, “Teachers are not only education providers but also trainers and they are responsible for shaping the students’ future. The NEP focusses on the job security of teachers and upgradation of their skills, therefore, teachers must keep learning and upgrading their skills to stay relevant in changing times.”
Highlighting the role of teachers, Prof. Alok Kumar Chakrawal, Vice Chancellor, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (Central University) Bilaspur, Chattisgarh, averred, “It is as difficult to find a good student as it is to find a good teacher. When a teacher finds a true student, their life is made. Teachers must always be available for students and contribute to the holistic development of a child.”
Sharing her views on the occasion, Prof. Harjeet Kaur Bhatia, Head- Department of Educational Studies, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi, stated, “Teachers shape the future of students and thereby contribute to nation-building. The role of a teacher is extremely crucial as they have a direct impact on the minds of the students. Therefore, the Integrated Teacher Education Programme which has been included in the National Education Policy 2020 will be immensely beneficial for the teachers. The NEP also lays stress on Teacher Audit of Performance Appraisal, which will be helpful in assessing the performance of teachers and help in their growth.”
Prof. Manoj Sinha, Director, Indian Institute of Law, asserted, “The Government should aim for holistic empowerment of teachers. The Policies should not only be made by the Governmnet but implemented as well so that the educationists and students, both get benefitted out of it.”
Prof. Rekha Aggarwal, Dean Central University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar Faculty of Education, said, “Teachers build the society and have the huge responsibility of serving humanity through teaching. Empowerment of teachers highly significant for making students into innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Rigorous Teacher Training programmes are required so that the teachers get the opportunity to upgrade their skills and empower themselves.”
Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “Teachers must not only focus on imparting knowledge but on inculcating values in students, as well. They must make the youth of the country confident and proud of their culture and instil a sense of responsibility towards the growth and development of their nation.”
In addition to the insightful online and offline Guest Lectures by eminent Academicians and Educationists, a Panel Discussion and Exhibition was also organised during the Inaugural Session. The Inaugural Session of the five-day programme, concluded with an interactive Q&A session, wherein the experts answered the queries of the participants, the guests were felicitated by the senior faculty of Amity and the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. A.P. Bhanu, Addl. Director & Jt. Head, Amity Law School.
