20 Senior Media Professionals from Maldives join “In-Service Training Of Editors And Journalists of Maldives Program”, conducted by Amity in collaboration with Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC)
Amity University Uttar Pradesh has partnered with the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (e-ITEC) Programme sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to impart training to professionals from all over the world. Under this partnership, Amity Institute of Training and Development and Amity School of Communication, have organized “In-Service Training Of Editors And Journalists of Maldives Program”, from 22nd August- 29th August, to provide training to 20 Editors and Journalists from Maldives.
Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Session, Mr. Mohammad Shaafiu, VP Maldives Media Council, said, “We would like to thank Amity for conducting this highly insightful and beneficial Training Programme for the journalists of Maldives. The training and knowledge provided during the Programme will be highly beneficial through which the journalists will be able to apply Information Technology knowledge in developing a news story so that it achieves its maximum potential. It will also help in utilizing modern digital technology and creating high-quality content for digital media including internet publications, blogs, TV channels, radio channels and news agencies.”
Emphasizing upon the significance of the Programme, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “India and Maldives share a great relationship. This training programme is extremely important as it will provide useful information about the new-age story telling techniques which have undergone a huge transformation, in recent years. The onslaught of COVID 19 has drastically changed the media landscape with new challenges, ground-breaking storytelling styles which affect the social lives and content consumption patterns of people across regions. Digital media platforms have grown more exciting and citizen journalism has become a new reality with innovative ways of storytelling. Journalists nowadays produce stories for a multimedia world, and with technological developments coming faster and faster, reporters are coming under increasing pressure. Therefore, stories must be tailor-made for the new media which includes social media, video journalism, mobile reporting and streaming services.”
Highlighting the objectives of the Programme, Prof. (Col.) R.K. Dargan, Advisor, Amity School of Communication, said, “The main objectives of the Programme are to explore new forms of journalism & storytelling, learn from experienced Indian editors, journalists and institutions, build healthy relationship with Indian media and learn the best media practices. Through this Programme the participants will be able to develop professional skills to improve reach, impressions, and engagements through Indian media experience and will also be able to learn the tenets of feature stories, opinion pieces and blogs.”
During the eight-day Training Programme, insightful sessions by experts on various topics including. Media in “the age of Twitter-comparative study of conventional journalism Vs Digital Journalism”, “Need for Media Literacy at Global Level-Overview of international standards on freedom of expression” and “Cultural barriers and critical thinking involved in reporting news stories”, will be conducted amongst others.
