Amity University organizes a “Five Day On-Line Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Technology for Teaching and Assessment of I-Generation”

 

Amity Academic Staff College (AASC), Amity University Uttar Pradesh is organizing a Five Day On-Line ‘Faculty Development Programme (FDP)’ on “Technology for Teaching and Assessment of I-Generation” under the UGC Mandate - Guru-Dakshta from 27 June to 01 July 2022, on Virtual Platform.

Speaking about “E-learning theories and practices for multilingual societies, Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Girish Nath Jha, Chairman, Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, New Delhi, stated, “Technology can be very effective in imparting education and educationists need to adopt new technologies by creating tech-based teaching modules which are both interactive and informative and can grab the attention of the new-age students. Online learning includes various means such as virtual classrooms, video conferencing, use of online content and tools and other online teaching modules and software. Artificial Intelligence can be used to enhance language processing and understanding capacity of machines, performance of targeted expert systems, naturalness of animations and customization of lessons specific to the learner.” 

Highlighting the significance of the Programme, Prof. (Dr.) S. R. Subramanya, President & CEO, Exskillence, National University, San Diego, USA, stated “The Digital India Campaign is helping to transform the entire nation into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. While education will play a critical role in this transformation, technology will play an integral role in improving educational processes and outcomes. The i-Generation is completely immersed in technology and new-generation youngsters are defined by their love for technology, electronic communication and their need to multitask. Therefore, teachers need to take advantage of their love for technology to refocus on tech-based education. By doing so, teachers can get a deeper involvement of the students in learning and help them to utilize the wealth of information surrounding them.”

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Marita Turpin, Associate Professor, Department of Informatics, University of Pretoria, South Africa, said, “Technology has overtaken the major areas of our lives, including education and therefore, it is essential that educators learn and adopt new technologies of education which are user-friendly and easily comprehendible. Learning Management Systems (LMS), E- content, Multimedia-based Interactive Tutorials, Web-based Lectures and Virtual Reality based learning systems are some important and effective ways of providing tech-based education.”

Addressing the gathering, Prof.(Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, averred, “The envisaged outcome of the Faculty Development Programme is to enable teachers to understand and appreciate the potential of technology in teaching and learning process, to make use of technology for assessment and evaluation practices, to communicate and deliver information to students by updating oneself with latest developments in technology and use them for educational purposes and to understand and align themselves with various digital initiatives of Government of India for enriching higher education, in particular Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching (ARPIT) for online refresher modules.” 

During the Five-Day Programme, various sessions on Understanding Online Learning Applications & System”, “Developing e-content”, “India’s Initiatives in e-learning” and “ICT- based assessment methods”, will be conducted amongst others.
