Delegation from UK Universities explore areas of collaboration with Amity
A high-level delegation from 7 U.K. Universities including University of Leeds, Lancaster University, Cardiff University, University of Kent, University of Portsmouth, De Montfort University and University of London, comprising of 12 members, visited Amity University Noida Uttar Pradesh, to discuss the potential areas of academic and research collaboration. Hosted by the British Council, the delegation’s visit to Amity University was among the top 4 University visits in Delhi NCR and the only one in Noida/Greater Noida. On this occasion, Amity University also signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cardiff University, Lancaster University, De Montfort University, University of London, University of Leeds and University of Kent.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Colin Bryan Riordan, President and Vice Chancellor, Cardiff University, stated, “Cooperation and collaboration are highly significant for the growth of an institution. The Pandemic has changed the education scenario and has provided a huge number of opportunities for research in various fields. Today, we have a lot of Education Programmes such as Student Exchange Programmes, Study Abroad Programmes and others which did not exist earlier and there are several opportunities to collaborate in diverse fields including psychology, life sciences, communications and media, amongst others.”
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Simon Charles Guy, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Global (Digital, International, Sustainability), Lancaster University, said, “U.K’s structure of funding in research has changed after the Pandemic and U.K has created several options such as Global Challenges research Fund, Blended fund and other funds which will no longer be a constraint for the students who are looking for Research Projects.”
Prof. Simon Christopher Bradbury, Pro Vice Chancellor International and Dean for the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities, De Montfort University, outlined the areas of possible partnership with Amity such as sustainability, climate change, fashion design, cyber security and health.
Ms. Vivienne Stern, Director, Universities UK International, impressed with the achievements of Amity, talked about International Research Collaboration, where she highlighted the importance of the quality of research. She called upon the researchers to project their own capabilities and enhance their existing capabilities which enable the researchers to grow. Joint Degrees are the future of education and this is a great opportunity to bring together the strengths and opportunities of two renowned Universities through a mutually beneficial collaboration.”
Highlighting the collaboration between Amity and UK, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, averred, “Amity has shared a great long-standing relationship with UK as we opened our first international University in London in 2009.” He expressed his gratitude to the British Government for providing Amity, their support at each and every step and further added, “The trust which the British Government has shown in Amity is really remarkable and my recent meeting with Mr. Boris Johnson, Honourable Prime Minister of U.K., has been very fruitful and result oriented. Our relationship with Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is very old, through which RICS has become the first body to establish its campus in India. With the support of our academic leaders and faculty, our latest partnership with Harrows School London has also been a successful one, through, which we have set up Harrow Schools in India and New York too.”
Emphasizing upon the significance of the visit, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “In keeping with the vision of Hon’ble Founder President, Amity is poised to become a truly Global Education Group and this visit from UK Universities will further provide impetus through strengthening of international collaborations for unique and advanced degree programs, especially under the National Education Policy 2020. Amity shares the same synergies with UK Universities and the interest areas of UK Universities are similar to those of Amity. Through our Funded Projects, Study Abroad Programmes and other programs we aim to strengthen our partnership with UK Universities.”
Explaining about the various areas of collaboration, Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group VC, Amity Universities, said,” Amity has been sending approximately 4000 students to UK every year. Amity also received the highest number of students from UK as part of our India Immersion program. Through the New Education Policy, a lot of opportunities for UK and Indian Universities have emerged. Offering Joint, Twinning and Dual Degrees., bringing UK Universities to India to have their joint campuses with Amity, building research, training and consulting partnerships, are some of the areas which can be looked at, through this partnership.”
Dr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity Universities and Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science Technology and Innovation foundation (ASTIF) also addressed the gathering and the visit of the delegation concluded with felicitations of the visiting members and their tour of the Amity University Noida Campus.
