Clinical Workshop on ‘Arise Standing Wheelchair’ held at Amity

TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (R2D2 IITM), in collaboration with Phoenix Medical Systems and Amity Institute of Occupational Therapy (AIOT), Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, organized a Clinical Workshop on ‘Arise Standing Wheelchair (Arise SWC), at Amity University.
Welcoming the guests on this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) B. C. Das, Dean, Health & Allied Sciences, Director, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “This clinical workshop is very important in spreading awareness about the unique wheelchair developed by the scientists of IIT Madras. Research and innovation leads to out-of-the- box thinking which is essential for the development of path-breaking innovations. Amity is a leading Scientific Research and Innovation driven University as research and innovation contributes to nation building.”
Giving an introduction to Arise Standing Wheelchair, Mr. Samson Daniel, Head, Clinical Training & Research, (and Occupational Therapist), TTKR2D2, IIT Madras, averred, “Arise Standing Wheelchair is a very important tool for rehabilitation and is only meant for skilled professionals. Any person who wants to buy the wheelchair can only buy it through prescription by the clinicians. This wheelchair has been designed by the researchers of IIT Madras to prevent the implications of ill-fitting wheelchairs and empowers differently-abled persons to live a life of independence. It took us more than five years to develop this instrument and through workshops like these, we want to spread awareness about the benefits of this wheelchair. The wheelchair is highly economical so that people in the rural areas can afford it and benefit from it. A participation certificate will be provided to all the participants who participate in the workshop and learn about the functioning of the wheelchair.”
The workshop concluded with an interaction with Ms. Renuka, Physiotherapist, IIT Madras and checkout, user training, follow up and maintenance discussion by Mr. Samson Daniel.
