Amity University organizes a Symposium on the occasion of the first CYBER JAGROOKTA Awareness Diwas

Amity Law School, Amity University, Noida, organized a Symposium on the theme of Cyber Security & Data Protection, on the occasion of the first CYBER JAGROOKTA Awareness Diwas.
The Symposium was attended by Mr. Rakshit Tandon, Director, Hackershala, Head Capacity Building, Cyber Peace Foundation, Mr. Dilip Singh, Lawyer, Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, Ms. Shreya Suri, Partner, Indus Law, Dr. Shruti Bisht, National President, Cyber Security Council, WICCI and Advocate Supreme Court of India, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Prof. (Dr.) D. K. Bandyopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law School. Prof. (Dr.) Aditya Tomer, Additional Director, Amity Law School and Prof. (Dr.) Shefali Raizada, Additional Director, Amity Law School
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, said, “We are living in a Digital World today and the usage of technology has increased more in our daily lives, owing to the pandemic. Technology enables and empowers us but at the same time, it also has its negative impact, it is a double-edged sword. On one hand, technology has made our lives much simpler, easier and convenient and on the other hand, we have seen a steep rise in Cyber Crimes leading to loss of data, information, money, etc. We have become socially vulnerable; therefore, it is very important that we are educated and aware about cyber laws in order to protect ourselves.”
Sharing his views, Mr. Rakshit Tandon, Director, Hackershala, Head Capacity Building, Cyber Peace Foundation, stated, “More than 3,000 cases of Cyber Crime happen in India every day. Whenever we are doing online monetary transactions or visit any website, we leave our digital footprint. The hackers are very clever and they first build trust over a phone call and extract personal information regarding the email id, password, OTP, etc. very tactfully. We are highly unaware about the Cyber Laws and hackers take advantage of the situation. Some of the common mistakes that we make our keeping all passwords the same on all social media sites, doing online transactions from an unreliable source, sharing our personal information easily, etc." He further advised that in case of children we have to be very cautious and careful. We have to be watchful and observe the content which children are watching, as online gaming addiction has become very common due to the pandemic. It is also crucially important for us to monitor children closely and we have to ensure that children get a good “Digital Diet”.
Mr. Dilip Singh, Lawyer, Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, averred, “We have to fight the menace of Cyber Crimes and awareness and ability are the mantras to combat the same. Cyber Crimes are increasing day by day, not only in India but globally. Today, in the age of digital media, data protection has become extremely important. Some characteristics of cyber space are that it has no jurisdictional boundary, it handles huge traffic and there is no restriction. The State Government has to match the steps taken by the Central Government and implement Cyber Security laws effectively. India is very fortunate to be leading in the field of software so we have a very good manpower to stop the increasing Cyber Crimes.”
Ms. Shreya Suri, Partner, Indus Law, expressed, “We, as the citizens of our country, have the right to know how our data is being processed. Our Law does not provide protection for all kinds of data. We can get protection through the implementation of Privacy Policy, on the basis of which our consent will be taken and there has to be a legitimate purpose.”
Concluding the session, Dr. Shruti Bisht, National President, Cyber Security Council, WICCI and Advocate Supreme Court of India, stated, “Parents should monitor and observe closely what their children are watching online. We should also avoid using a public wi-fi connection and should only use a safe and secure source for our online activities, specially online financial transactions. Child pornography has also become very common these days; therefore, it is all the more recommended for parents to be strictly aware of their children’s online activities.”
