Amity University organizes Workshop Cum Training Programme on “Climate Change Modelling and Remote Sensing Applications for Environmental Systems”

Amity Institute of Environmental Science (AIES), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus organized a three-day Workshop Cum Training Programme in collaboration with the Indian Meteorological Society, IMS, Delhi on a very relevant Topic, “Climate Modelling and remote sensing applications for environmental Systems", on Virtual platform with the aim to provide Comprehensive Training on different aspects of Remote Sensing Applications.
The Eminent Speakers included Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, President IMS & Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department, Government of India, Dr. D. R. Pattanaik, Secretary IMS & Head, NWP, IMD New Delhi and Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi, India. The faculty, researchers, scientists and students of Amity University also attended the event in large numbers.
Guest of Honor, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, President IMS & Director General of Meteorology, India Meteorological Department, Government of India, stated, “As we know, information regarding climate is of interest to everyone and we all make weather predictions in our daily lives also. By adopting a scientific approach, we can address the problems of climate change and work towards creating a sustainable and clean environment. Even in our Epics and Vedas, we can find instances of weather predictions and how people used to measure the rainfall, etc. for agricultural purposes. India is not lagging behind other countries when it comes to studying Climate Change and its impact and we have already adopted all the tools and technologies for studying climate change. I’m certain this workshop will be highly informative for all concerned and will pave the way forward to combat the impacts of Climate Change. We are extremely happy and delighted that Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Indian Meteorological Society, IMS, Delhi, has organized this three-day workshop through which we aim to provide a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns. as well as practical challenges, encountered, and solutions adopted in the fields of Climate Modelling and Applications Conference.”
Speaking about the importance of the Environmental Systems, Chief Guest, Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi, stated, “Environmental Systems are important to monitor and control, with the rising concerns of climate change and erroneous weather events. Climate modelling has become imperative to predict future events. The growing human impact on the environment has led to the development of new observations and analysis tools to tackle and monitor types, magnitudes and rates of environmental changes. Timely observations by Earth Observation (EO) Satellite Systems and improved mapping and analysis tools are enabling a better understanding of the ecological and environmental interactions that underlie our Earth systems, which is critical for developing sustainable solutions. The scientists, experts and other stakeholders across the world and nation should come together for a better understanding and solving the issues of Environmental Systems using Remote Sensing tools and techniques. Environmental Remote Sensing deals with emerging methods, technologies, and high-impact EO applications in real-world contexts.”
Sharing his views, Dr. D. R. Pattanaik, Secretary IMS & Head, NWP, IMD New Delhi, said, “Climate Change is a complex subject, earlier the challenges in this area were not much but now, with Scientific advancement and development, the challenges have increased. Though, we are trying hard to meet the demands but still we have a long way to go before we can completely overcome the challenges of Climate Change. IMS is regularly conducting workshops to address the problems of Climate Change. This workshop is a platform where highly ambitious minds will get an opportunity to show the Understanding of Human-Environment Systems, Climate Change Research, Responses, and Thresholds in the Earth System. This Conference cum training also provides the opportunity to present the work done by nationwide Scientists, experts in using Remote sensing software, P.G. and Research Scholars from all over the country to discuss and exchange their views. This three-day workshop will also be highly beneficial for the students as they will enrol for the PhD programme in related fields.”
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP), averred, “Today, Climate Change is a global problem and we can see the impact of Climate Change on all kinds of living creatures on this planet. Air Pollution and Water pollution have caused a huge damage to the environment and many of the species of animals and birds have become extinct due to this problem. We have to work collaboratively to address the problems of deforestation, carbon emissions, etc. which have a direct bearing on the natural eco system. The workshop will not only provide learning but will create huge opportunities to make the planet sustainable.”
Addressing the gathering, Dr. D.K. Bandopadhyay, Mentor, Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences, Amity University, said, “In this workshop, we intend to discuss the unprecedented challenges of environmental systems that can be resolved with remote sensing. The workshop will provide an opportunity for academicians, researchers, practitioners, policymakers and research scholars to undergo training, share and discuss ideas and practices across a range of empirical, theoretical, and applied approaches in Remote Sensing and Climate Modelling for environment sustainability.”
