Experts express views on "Prevention of Discrimination against Girls and Providing Equality Opportunities" at Amity University on UNICEF Day
UNICEF Day was observed by Amity Institute of Education, Amity University today and experts expressed their views on UNICEF’s this year's theme "International Girl Child Day 2021 - Digital Generation: Our Generation". The discussion session was attended by Shri Ravindra Kumar, Consultant, UNICEF and UNESCO, Shri Harjit Singh Jaspal, Secretary, Delhi State Legal Service Authority, Ms. Hazar Al Kwafa, Fellowship, UNICEF Paris, Shri Deepak Chawla, General Manager, AB Tutorials and Ms. Neerja Gupta, Programme Officer, Doordarshan. Dr. Alka Mudgal, Head, Amity Institute of Education welcomed the guests at the event.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Danish Aziz, An Education Expert, UNICEF, India, who said, “We need to make students aware of gender equality and equal opportunities for all boys and girls and this awareness will bring about a change in society, country and world. Efforts are being made to fill up the vacancy in the middle of this incompatibility but there is still a lot of work to be done. In order to prevent discrimination between women and men, we have to understand the challenges and provide eaqual opportunities, in every field. We have to create a database on the participation of women and girls to ensure their participation.”
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Alka Mudgal, Head, Amity Institute of Education, said, “At Amity University, we encourage students to do social work and make people aware to remove the ill-practices. Education is helpful for development in every context of the society and the country.”
Speaking on the theme "International Girl Child Day 2021 - Digital Generation: Our Generation", Shri Ravindra Kumar, Consultant, UNICEF and UNESCO said, “Society is made for both women and men. Today, a lot of efforts are being made to make the girls and women health development, education, economically viable but there is still a lot of effort to be made in this direction. A multiplication approach is necessary. Progress and participation of girls in the digital sector is also essential.”
Ms. Hazar Al Kwafa, Felicitator, UNICEF Paris, said, “UNICEF works on protection of children with disabilities, children with disabilities, violence and during war, against child labour, etc. Educating girls and women will increase the productivity of life and also increase their income so that they can take the right and appropriate decisions and improve their future.”
Shri Deepak Chawla, General Manager, B Tutorials and Ms. Neerja Gupta, Programme Officer, Doordarshan, also shared their views on the occasion. The event was attended by a huge number of students and the faculty including Dr. Marshall Sahni, Dean, Amity University - Student Welfare and Dr. Rasna Sehrawat of Amity Institute of Education, amongst others.
