Welcoming the guests, Dr. D.K. Every person must be aware about Human Rights as they are moral principles for certain standards of human behaviour.”
Distinguished Guest, Dr. Joshua Aston, Associate Dean (Law), School of Business and Law, Edith Covan University, Australia, said, “Human rights are the fundamental rights of all human beings and are not granted by the Government, a human being is born with these rights, inherently. Human Rights have existed since time immemorial and are not new. Human rights include Right to life, Right to Freedom of Speech, Right to Freedom of Religion and other basic rights.” Explaining the difference between “Derogable” and “Non-derogable” rights, he expressed, “In Human Rights Law, “derogability” means whether the right may be infringed in certain circumstances. A “Non-derogable” Right is one whose infringement is not justified under any circumstances, generally Right to Life and Freedom from Torture, inhuman, or degrading treatment is a “Non-derogable” Right. Human Rights are universally applicable to all, irrespective of their gender, language, community, caste, creed, etc.” He also spoke about the importance of Human Rights Foundations and mentioned that Human Rights were violated during World War II.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aman Hingorani, Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India, stated, “I would like to thank Amity for organizing this event today on the occasion of Human Rights Day. Human Rights are moral principles or norms for certain standards of human behaviour and are regularly protected in municipal and international law. The Preamble of our Constitution itself talks about human rights and mentions “Equality, Fraternity and Sovereignty”. The biggest contribution which India has made in the field of Human Rights is the formation of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which protects Human Rights. It refers to litigation undertaken to secure public interest and demonstrates the availability of justice to socially-disadvantaged parties.”
Expressing pleasure on this occasion, Dr. Ashok Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group, said, “Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10th December the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being . This year’s Human Rights Day theme relates to 'Equality' and the principles of equality and non-discrimination are at the heart of human rights. We are glad that in continuation of our constant efforts for providing best legal education, we are organizing this training programme in collaboration with National Human Rights Commission which will spread awareness about Human Rights and provide very useful information to our Law students.”
Justice Rajesh Tandon, former Chairperson, Uttarakhand State Law Commission, averred, “Human Rights protect the dignity of a person. There are many NGOs in the country which protect Human Rights, such institutions should be encouraged. These institutions also helped in spreading awareness about Human Rights during the Corona period and it is our responsibility to extend special support to these institutions.”
