India provides the second largest population of the total student population of UK says H.E. Mr. alexander Alex Ellis CMG, British High Commissioner to India

Amity University organized an online Guest Lecture by H.E. Mr. Alexander Alex Ellis CMG, British High Commissioner to India on the topic, ‘UK/India – From Evolution to Transformation’. The session was attended by Dr. Ashok Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group and Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University along with the students, faculty, staff and research scholars of Amity University.
Welcoming the distinguished Guest Speaker, Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities, said, “Today we have amongst us, His Excellency Mr. Alexander Alex Ellis CMG, British High Commissioner to address this wonderful session. Amity is the largest group of institutions in India and we have always believed in global alliances and collaborations. Expanding our global presence, we look forward to collaborating with UK Universities and institutions in the area of research and innovation.”
His Excellency, Mr. Alexander Alex Ellis started the session by suggesting a few big trends which are happening in the world and are likely to happen over the next generation, the first one being the shift of the world to India and the Indo-Pacific region, its rise or return as the Center of the World. Secondly, he highlighted the relationship between human beings and technology. He stated, “Technology is fast evolving and human beings are fast adapting to it.” He also spoke about the relationship between human beings and their natural environment which was highlighted during the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. “Climate change is happening gradually already and it is impacting India as there is less rainfall, for a shorter period of time. There is a long-term goal of reducing the carbon intensity and greenhouse gas emissions as India produces a lot of coal hence it is difficult but attainable for sure.”, commented Mr. Ellis.
Speaking on UK and India relationship, he said, “India and United Kingdom share a historical relationship and there is a great flow of people between the two countries. Over 1.5 million people in the UK are of Indian heritage. It would be great to grow this further and take it forward. Also, a huge Indian population contributes to the total population of the UK, i.e., close to 1.6% of the total population. India provides the second largest population of the total student population of UK and this flow of students will only be increasing in the coming years and UK will see more of Indians as students, traders and investors, India is already the second largest investor in the UK.”
He further remarked, “Indian health practitioners have contributed a lot in the UK, especially when it came to the Corona virus crisis, therefore healthcare is a very important part of our future partnership.” Sharing his views on India’s impact on the World he said, “India is going to have a huge impact on the world, economically, strategically and technologically. India is generating more inclusion of talent in all spheres, the key is to capture attention. The challenge lies in generating more jobs in a sustainable way. India will contribute tremendously in all areas including health, defense and security, climate change and educational research in the coming years.”
