International Symposium of Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering (ISBBE-2021)

The two days International Symposium of Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering (ISBBE-2021) themed on Waste Management and Innovation for Valorization: Enroute a Sustainable World and Future organized jointly by the Centre for Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University Uttar Pradesh and Amity University Kolkata during 26-27th October 2021 on virtual platform.
The symposium heard from four distinguished keynote speakers from various esteemed institutions, shared opinions, suggestions with structured discussions on the challenges and opportunities waste management are currently grappling with. Padamshri (Prof). Rajagopalan Vasudevan gave a presentation that discussed whether “Plastics should be banned or planned” with a notion of strict segregation, reuse and recycling. Dr. Sangeeta Kasture, Scientist G, Head, Centre of Bioenergy, Dept. of Biotechnology, India gave an overview of various schemes, translational support and technologies provided by the Department of Biotechnology of India for waste-based sustainable bioenergy production. Prof. Ashok Pandey, Distinguished Scientist CSIR- Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India gave a brief on Microplastic Pollution and its impact on Life and the Environment. Prof. Nagamani Balagurusamy (Autonomous University of Coahuila, Mexico) reviewed molecular technologies as an emerging tool for carbon recovery from anaerobic digesters. Also, four different discussion panels of the invited delegates from various eminent institutions like IIT-Delhi, NEERI-Nagpur, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-BHU, IARI New Delhi, ICGEB New Delhi and ICT-Mumbai were conducted.
The symposium was attended across the country by approximately 700 people on both days. The valedictory ceremony was attended by Padamshri (Prof). Rajagopalan Vasudevan, Dr. Ashok Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, AUUP, Dr. Sanjay Singh, Vice Chancellor, AUUP, DR. W. Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, and Prof. (Dr.) Nidhee Chaudhary, Prof. (Dr.) Monika Prakash Rai, Dr. Abha Kumari, AIB amongst others.
