“World Physiotherapy Day” Celebrated by Amity
To mark the huge contribution of Physiotherapy in treating patients all over the world, September 8 is observed as “World Physiotherapy Day” worldwide. Amity Institute of Physiotherapy organized a webinar on the theme “Long COVID and Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation” wherein distinguished physiotherapists presented their views on the vital aspects of physiotherapy.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Prof (Dr) Jasobanta Sethi, Director, Amity Institute of Physiotherapy expressed his gratitude to the distinguished speakers and said Amity every year celebrates this programme to make the students aware regarding the profession. He added due to covid people are facing issues like stress and anxiety,some of which can be only cured through physiotherapy, therefore we should put efforts to help patience during this difficult time.
Presenting his views, Dr. V.P. Gupta, Former Chief Physiotherapist, AIIMS, New Delhi said “at present Physiotherapy is providing extensive help to people who have recovered from Covid. Post covid, people are are facing issues like loss of appetite, low energy, Blood pressure, fatigue etc. which affects their personal and professional efficiency. It is our duty to pay attention to our patience by understanding all the symptoms they may be facing. Dr. Gupta also mentioned that due to this pandemics students are unable to attend physically to their patients therefore, one should find solutions for this by following strict rules of Covid 19. Experiential based environment should be created for the students, said Dr.VP Gupta.
Dr. Jaiprakash Jayavellu, Chief Physiotherapist, Narayana Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi congratulated and appreciated the efforts of Amity Institute of Physiotherapy for organizing such a interactive webinar. Dr. Jayavellu said worldwide, about 220 million people have been infected by Covid with a mortality rate of 2 percent and in India about 30 million people have been infected and the death rate is 1.3 percent. He said headache, anxiety, stress, cognitive impairment, loss of focus, fatigue, sleeplessness, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, loss of smell and taste are the symptoms of long Covid. Dr. Jaiprakash advised people suffering from post covid symptoms to not exert till they get fit. Even exercises should be done in moderate between intervals. Check your saturation as and when needed, take frequent rest. Gradually increase your duration and intensity of activity like exercise monitor heart rates, avoid breathe holding exercises advised Dr. Jaiprakash.
The webinar was attended by student faculty of Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and academicians
