“Sustainable Utilization of Water in Seafood Industry- Recycle and Reuse”

Amity Food and Agriculture Foundation organized an online workshop on “Sustainable Utilization of Water in Seafood Industry- Recycle and Reuse” which aimed to discuss recent developments in technologies and policies to reuse and recycle meat and seafood industry wash water. During the program, Mr. Deepak Gadre, Founder of Gadre Marine Exports Pvt. Ltd was conferred with Amity Industry Award for Excellence in Food Processing.

Mr. Deepak Gadre, Founder, Gadre Marine Export Pvt. Ltd., Ratnagiri said 30 to 35 percent of seafood, especially fish, is used for human food and the rest gets destroyed. We use water as a raw material in the seafood processing industry, so it becomes even more important to conserve water. It is necessary to add values ??to the conservation of water. Work is being done to conserve water by using new technologies. Under water waste management, we manufacture methane from water waste and can use water with limited amount of nitrogen, which can be used in the fields said Mr. Gadre.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rasa Slizyte, Senior Research Scientist, SINTEF Ocean, Norway said in the context of manufacturing from raw materials left under marine raw material flow in Norway, lipids and proteins are manufactured from farmed fish, pelagic fish and white fish. Under the fish line, fishes are used for human food and baby parts are used to make fish food and oil. On this occasion, Dr. Sliegiten provided detailed information about the technology of utilization of residual raw material, its various stages, characteristics of the protein market, and protein capacity ratio.

Addressing the students, Dr Neelima Alam, Scientist -F Technology Mission Division, DST, India outlined the efforts of the Department of Science and Technology in Water Technology and Management, and said that work is being done by the DST including for the availability, quality, recycling and reuse of water, including safe drinking water, waste water management. Along with increasing the water reuse capacity, DST is involved in carrying out projects under Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat, Namami Gange, and Smart City etc. Dr Neelima spoke about water conservation initiatives, methodologies for adaptation to prevent problems, water technology research, water innovation centre, India-US collaboration, Indo UK collaboration in water quality research etc.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder of Amity Education Group said this is an important workshop in which water conservation in the food processing industry is being discussed. Academia and industry must jointly promote research and development to make the Nation a Global Leader. At Amity, we inspire students to do research to solve the problems of society and industry, said Dr. Chauhan.

Scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs from institutions across the country and abroad, including Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh; Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Director General, Amity Foundation for Science Technology and Innovation Alliance; Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation participated in this workshop.
