Webinar by Prof. Robert Verpoorte, Emeritus Professor, Natural Products Laboratory, IBL, Leiden University, The Netherlands on the topic “Learn from Nature, learn from our ancestors was organized at Amity University on 14th July 2021. This webinar was jointly organised by Amity Food & Agriculture Foundation (AFAF) and Amity International Society for Natural Products (AISNP) in collaboration with Society of Ethnopharmacology of India.
Professor Verpoorte, popularly known as Rob, is world renowned authority in natural products and is also among the top 10 scientists of the world in the field of Metabolomics and has received an Honorary Doctorate from University of Amiens, France (2004 and is also recipient of Phytochemical Society of Europe Medal.
He was joined in the Panel by Dr. Pulok Mukherjee, Director, IBSD , Manipal and a renowned Indian Natural Product Scientist; Dr Sayeed Ahmad from Jamia Hamdard; Dr. Selwamurthy, President, ASTIF, Amity University and Dr. Nutan Kaushik , D.G. AFAF, Amity University.
Prof. Verpoorte touched upon challenges in clinical trials pertaining to traditional medicines, about the Problems network Pharmacology in traditional medicine and spoke about the Drug target networking and role of synergism. Prof. Verpoorte engaged the attendees attending from India and abroad by giving a brief about the strategies followed in Traditional medicine; anovel approach on Comprehensive extraction. In the end he touched upon approaches in CORONA Drugs.
Dr. Nutan Kaushik briefed about the different Institutes at Amity University and about the research going on in Natural Product Area. Dr. Selwamurthy , President ASTIF gave a glimpse of Amitys area of collaborations. Dr. Pulok Mukherjee, and Prof. Syed emphasised on India’s rich Fauna and Flora which makes it a hub of Traditional medicines
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group shared that this Webinar is one of the most important collaborations for Amity in the area to further enhance India’s presence in Natural products.

Webinar was highly engaging and all the queries were coordinated by Dr. Seema Bhatnagar, Asst Director , AIB, Amity University and Coordinator , Amity Natural and herbal Product cluster. She also briefed about the research going on in the triple conjugate of curcumin for cancer.
This webinar had also in the Panel Dr. Harsha Kharkwal, Director , Amity Institute of Phytomedicine and Phytochemistry and Chief Coordinator for Amity International Society of Natural Products and Amity Natural and herbal Product cluster spoke about the research, patents, projects Ph.D programmes in Natural Product Research offered by her institute and also delivered vote of thanks.
Prof. Verpoorte was requested to accept Honorary Professorship which he very humbly and gracefully accepted, This webinar has touched an important milestone in Amity’s endeavour to be among the top Institutes in the area of Natural Products and Drug Discovery.
