FDP on “Best practices in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property Rights in Pharmaceutical Sector: Prospective Trends”
Amity Academic Staff College (AASC) in Association with Amity Institute of Pharmacy (AIP), Amity University Noida organized a 05 day virtual Faculty Development Programme on, “Best practices in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property Rights in Pharmaceutical Sector: Prospective Trends”.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Tanveer Naved, Joint Head, Amity Institute of Pharmacy mentioned that more than 500 participants from across the country and about 25 eminent experts from leading pharmaceutical industries, research organization and regulatory agencies have come together to their thoughts and deliberate on topical issues faced by the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Sharing his ideas, Dr. Praveen Khullar, Head MSAT cluster- Europe and International, Sanofi Healthcare Pvt. India ltd. & President Goa Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association said by 2025, the global pharma industry market will reach approximately $1.6 trillion. India is supplying about 20% percent of generic medicines in the world, to about 220 countries of the world. 75% of the world’s vaccines are being manufactured in India. The challenges faced by the pharma sector include low discovery of new drugs and product, expiry of patents, lack of funding, price pressure by authorities, low profit etc. Apart from this, he also explained the business opportunities available in the pharma sector and shared nuances of the best practices to become a successful entrepreneur. He also called upon Universities to update the syllabus from time to time and include artificial intelligence, machine learning, organ on chip kind innovation in the health sector. Faculty should spend some time in industries and there should be more collaborations between industries and academia, averred Dr Khullar.
Dr. Tausif Ahmed, Director and Head- Bioanalytical and Biopharmaceutics, Global Clinical Management, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., Hyderabad stated that the need of the hour is to involve industrial experts in the research projects of academics. Academic and industry should work together to discover new drugs. The current pandemic has bought a massive change in innovation in clinical research. Dr. Ahmed said that modern techniques should be included in today’s education system, which will promote a culture of innovation among students and faculty. They should also protect their work in form of IPR and if possible incubate the ideas to form start-up companies
Welcoming the guests, Prof. Dr. B. C. Das, Dean, Faculty of Health & Allied Sciences and Chairman & Chair Professor, AIMMSCR said research and innovation is playing an important role in the development of the country. Amity always inspires students, researchers for innovation since it helps in Nation building.
During the technical session, Dr. Shazli Ahmad Khan, Franchises Head, Ophthalmology, Novartis, Vietnam shared his views on how pharma industry is fostering external and internal innovation in digital space; Dr. Nagma Abbasi, Founder & CEO - NextGen Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd, Delhi shared her views on Challenges and Opportunities for Entrepreneurs in the Post COVID-19 world; Mr. Jai Kumar Mishra, Head, Regulatory & External Affairs (South Asia) ENH, BASF India Ltd., New Delhi will share his views on Landscaping Indian Regulatory with respect to herbal and phytopharmaceuticals; Dr. Anil Kanaujia, Head- R&D Centre, Ayurvet, Haryana will share his views on Natural products in Drug Discovery: Advances and Opportunities amongst others
