Workshop on “Handling Stress and Anxiety during Pandemic”
A five-day workshop on “Handling Stress and Anxiety during Pandemic” is being organized by Amity Center for Guidance and Counseling wherein lectures will be delivered by various psychologists, consultants, experts, and others on how to deal with stress during the ongoing pandemic. The five-day-long workshop aims to familiarize the participants with precautionary measures that can be taken from the Covid disease and to promote physical and mental well-being to fight this pandemic.
Inaugurating the Workshop, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh said 24-hour counseling service is being conducted by Amity University for students and parents during the pandemic to share questions, thoughts, and problems arising in their minds. Students are worried about their future and therefore asking questions related to studies, future, employment, business, examination, syllabus, etc. If we try to solve the student's concerns and stress at the initial level then they will develop better and will be able to deal with this crisis.
Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh said “Life is not possible without stress. Some stresses are helpful in achieving goals in life, whereas some create imbalances in the body and mental state”. For development in life, it is necessary to have knowledge and use it for well being . In today's uncertain period every person is struggling and to be victorious in the struggle, it is necessary to be physically and mentally healthy.
While addressing, Prof. (Dr) Harminder Kaur Gujral, Head, Consortium, ACGC, AUUP said the purpose of this five-day workshop is to make students aware of the dynamics of stress, anxiety, and mental agitation that permeate their everyday lives. Students should be aware of screen time, online classes, and exam management and thus distribute their time wisely.
Ms. Nikita Prabhakar Bhasin, Counseling Psychologist, ACGC – AUUP shared her thoughts on stress and its management and explained how our behavior is always helpful in managing stress. She said that stress has a big effect on one’s life. There are two types of stress, positive stress and negative stress. Positive stress increases your productivity; negative stress develops physical and mental problems. Positive stress leads to development in concentration, better performance, energy to the inner body, body health, and negative stress leads to a decrease in motivation, physical and mental problems, behavioral issues, etc. Describing the symptoms of stress, she said that insomnia, loss of mental concentration, loss of work capacity, depression, excessive anger, family struggle, migraine, headache, back pain etc and once these symptoms are identified, it becomes easy to deal with stress.
Prof. (Dr) Rajat Kanti Mitra, Prof. AIPS – AUUP said humans have more ability to adapt than other species which have kept us alive on the earth for years. To understand anxiety and its technique, it is necessary to understand its factors which helps in understanding oneself.
During the session, Dr. (Mrs.) Alka Sharma, Counseling Psychologist, ACGC – AUUP provided information on "panic attack and its symptoms". Dr. Jaideep Kaur, Member Consortium ACGC shared his views on “Developing Resilience in the Time of Pandemic”. The session was attended by academicians, scholars , students and faculty od Amity Universities.
During the five day workshop, sessions will be held on Anxiety and its Management during pandemic by Prof. (Dr) Rajat Kanti Mitra; Understanding Your Panic Attacks. Symptoms of Panic Attacks by Dr. (Mrs.) Alka Sharma Counseling Psychologist ACGC – AUUP; Developing Resilience during the Pandemic time by Prof. (Dr.) Jaideep Kaur Department of HR- ABS and amongst others.
