Sanskrit Samwad – 2021
A one-day National Online Conference on the theme ‘New Horizons of Sanskrit Studies: Opportunities and Possibilities’ was organized by the Amity Institute for Sanskrit Studies and Research (AISSR), Amity University and Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Sansthan, Lucknow. The objectives of the conference are to establish AISSR, AUUP amongst the most prolific and professional institutions providing programs in Sanskrit studies, to attract Sanskrit students from competitive institutions for participation in various competitions during the event, to platform institutional and freelance placement opportunities for Sanskrit scholars and to invite Institution Heads of various organizations providing employment for Sanskrit scholars and entrepreneurs pertaining to Sanskrit language to showcase placement opportunities and to felicitate noted Sanskrit scholars who contributed in the promotion and development of Sanskrit with Sanskritopasak Samman.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice-chancellor, AUUP, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla who lauded the governmental, institutional, philanthropic and non-governmental organizations’ efforts to establish Sanskrit as a contemporary language. She proclaimed that Amity is prominent among institutions promoting Sanskrit as one of the additional language being availed by the students of various disciplines.
Dr. Vachaspati Mishra, the Chairman of the conference correlated the theme with the provisions of the NEP which also defines several measures to promote Sanskrit and indigenous knowledge worldwide and hence has immense potential to provide job opportunities to the Sanskrit grandaunts.
Professor Ramesh Kuman Pandey, Vice-chancellor, Shri LBS Central Sanskrit University suggested scores of innovative means to make Sanskrit scholars self-dependent and job provider. In his inspirational speech professor Pandey stated that Sanskrit has immense potential which can open novel fields of earning and knowledge generation, which will be beneficial for individuals, society and the Nation.
Mr. Dinesh Kamat, All India Organization Secretary of Sanskrit Bharati stated that the nations which respect own language are the most developed in the world. Giving example of Israel, he stated if it can give prominence to Hebrew then why we can’t promote Sanskrit which is the most scientific and systematic language in the world. He established that Sanskrit is the key to develop India as the world leader and vishva-guru in several fields altogether.
Dr. Brajesh Kumar Pandey, Professor at the Institute of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, JNU and Director, Human Resource Development Centre in the university threw light upon the innovative courses being run in the Jawahar Lal Nehru University which are not only parallel to the modern system but also contain components of ancient Indian knowledge system. These courses are job oriented and promote Sanskrit as a modern language.
Professor Ranjan Kumar Tripathi from the Sanskrit Department of Delhi University presented interesting illustrations from Sanskrit texts and associated them with the current condition of this language and its learners. He suggested Sanskrit scholars should not be remain limited to the traditional fields of job opportunities but look around to create innovative fields of earning and expanding traditional Sanskrit knowledge.
Later Sanskritopasak Samman was conferred upon Dr. Sanjay Dwivedi the Founder of World’s first Sanskrit Band “Dhruva” and Shri Samkit Jain ‘Shashtri’ the National Awardee Sanskrit Entrepreneur.
During the Competition and presentation sessions, 17 participants from various institutions of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh recited different Sanskrit verses. In Shlokocharan competition, Martand Pandey, Central Sanskrit University, Lucknow; Rashmi Prabha Jha, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Sanskrit University, Jaipur and Tulika Bansal, Amity University, Noida won the first, second and third prizes respectively.
During the concluding session Dr. Jai Prakash Narayan, Professor and Head of the Sanskrit Department, Jamia Millia Islamia University gave several examples to establish relevance of the theme of the conference. He hailed Amity University for organizing conference on such a relevant concept.
Dr. Daya Shankar Tiwari, Professor at the Department of Sanskrit, University of Delhi, spoke on the subject of scientific traditions in Sanskrit. He gave examples from various sources and established that Sanskrit has always been the language of Sanskrit advancement and exploration. In this age of scientific upsurge, Sanskrit can again show path to the young generation in all walks of life.
Professor Omnath Bimali from the University of Delhi gave valuable inputs regarding his vide national and international experience of meeting and interacting with Sanskrit scholars. He said, “That if the scholar is sound, no power can stop him from gaining good earning opportunities”. The conference ended with Vote of Thanks and Shantipaath by Dr. Shrutikant Pandey, the Head of Amity Institute for Sanskrit Studies and Research, Amity University.
