Amity International Model United Nations (AMIMUN– 2021)
To encourage student delegates to engage in debate which focuses on how the world has changed due to the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, Amity University Uttar Pradesh in collaboration with UNESCO, UN Global Compact Network India, Doctors without Borders and PETA Youth India has organized an E edition of Amity International Model United Nations (AMIMUN– 2021) Conference on the theme of “Winds of Change: Navigating through a New Normal in the Multipolar World”.
Addressing the gathering, H.E Mr Muktesh Pardeshi, Ambassador of India to New Zealand said that AMIMUN 2021 is an excellent platform for students to gain AN insight into how the United Nations functions, the role of various committees, global issues and how to deal with UN challenges. This will also develop communication and negotiation skills of the students. Today, we are facing multi- polar challenges after Covid and it is the need of the hour that these problems should be solved at global level. Our Prime Minister is granting vaccines to other countries also. This shows that tradition of considering the world as one family still continues.
Sharing his views, H.E Mr Carlos Rafael Polo Castaneda, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to India said that through this conference the students will get to know the basics of diplomacy and it also motivates them to become a diplomat. He also mentioned that many young diplomats from various countries represent their country and exchange ideas so that we create a better world to live in.
During the programme, delegates learned and understood the art of diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. They debated on various issues that confront world leaders and subsequently, drafted resolutions that can enable the United Nations to tackle the same. During the programme, seven committees like United Nation General Assembly, Counter Terrorism Committee, All India Political Party Committee, World Health Assembly etc, discussed various agendas dealing with pressing issues of the day. Over 370 Delegates from 40 Colleges across the globe including UAE, United States of America, Brazil and European Union participated in the International Conference.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University said that “Amity International Model United Nations conference will not only provide student with global information but also give them the skills to speak with confidence. He remarked that through this platform the guidance of experts will be helpful for their overall development. Dr. Chauhan also said that students are the future of the world and together we all can make the world better place to live”.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Paulo Jose Chiarelli, Head of Public Diplomacy, Education & Cultural Programme, Embassy of Brazil said that the united nations strives to improve the lives of all in the world and tries to find common solutions to global problems. He also said that we want active participation of youth in world development since only youth can change the world.
During the program, Mr Akash Tiwari, Youth Outreach Coordiantor, PETA India; Mr. Muhamed Heib, Spokesperson for the Embassy of Israel to India; Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh; Dr. Alpana Kakkar, Deputy Dean, Student Welfare were also present along with thousands of participants connected virtually.
