Webinar on ‘Learner-centric education with 21st-century pedagogy’
A webinar on ‘Learner-centric education with 21st-century pedagogy’ was conducted by Dr Shyamal Kumar Das Mandal - Asst. Professor - Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The session, organized by Amity University, Haryana, aimed to provide awareness about students centered learning and assessment and to help students identify their skills for success in the 21st century and apprise them of their roles and responsibilities in the changing scenario of academics. He stated that acquiring only good grades is not learning and students should not focus on that only. They should focus on the reason and purpose of the knowledge that they have acquired. He stressed on using education for developing skills.
He also suggested teachers to create curriculum in tune with the demands of the industry to produce industry ready professionals. He shared the issues related with 21st century education primarily related to student engagement; development of 21st century knowledge, skills and attitude; continuous improvement in curricula, incorporation of better open educational resources for more effective teaching to create industry-ready engineers; Assessment system reinforces teaching and learning; lifelong learning/ self-learning and having a student-teacher ratio for effective learning. He averred that outcome-based education is learner centric and achieving the target is the responsibility of the student under the guidance, mentoring & motivation of teachers.
