The Relationship: Insider Threats and Physical Protection Systems

 The Panel Discussion was held on the 24th of September 2020 on the topic ‘The Relationship: Insider Threats and Physical Protection Systems’ during the 3rd day of WINS Workshop held by Amity Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology in association with WINS. The panel was joined by eminent speakers who have/are serving the department of atomic energy at various positions of leadership.

The panelists were experts from the field of Nuclear Industry. Dr. S.A.V. Satya Murty, Prof. M. Sai Baba, Shri G. P. Srivastava, Shri Ranajit Kumar, and Shri Munish Sharma were the esteemed panelists while Prof. A. K. Jain acted as the moderator for the discussion.

Prof. A. K. Jain started the discussion by offering condolences to the recently deceased Nuclear Physicist, Padma Shri Dr. Sekhar Basu who expired that very morning due to Covid-19. He followed by opening the discussion on Physical Protection Systems and mentioning the Insider threats from the perspectives of Physical and Cyber security and called upon Dr. Satya Murty for his discussion.

Dr. Satya Murty talked about the Physical Protection Systems, covering a range of topics such as Delay, Detection and Responses to these. Following Dr. Satya Murty, Dr. Sai Baba discussed about the Physical Protection Systems and elaborated upon the concept. He explained how man machine interface gains more and more attention during these times of digitization.

Meanwhile Founder President Dr. Ashok K Chauhan joined and discussion and reemphasized on the importance of the discussion and how it is very relevant in the present context. Founder also mentioned that the future wars will not be fought with Guns or planes rather those would be cyberwars.

Dr. A. K. Jain then called upon Shri G. P. Srivastava who presented his ideas on the topics of Insider threats as related to the Physical Protection Systems.

This was followed by Shri Ranajit Kumar, who expressed his ideas on Cybersecurity whilst also mentioning about the Insider threats. In the end, Shri Munish Sharma talked about Cybersecurity and he introduced to the next generation technology of Artificial intelligence and behavioural analysis can augment the present state of understanding.
