A Lecture by Mr Sameer Kaul, Chief Marketing Officer, Metropolis was delivered on 'Entrepreneurship and Digitalization in Healthcare'. While addressing Mr Sameer Kaul said that Due to covid there are lot of things which have changed and Indian Heath care industry has become well-rounded because it has everything like hospitals, medical devices, tele medicines, clinical trials and the most important is medical tourism which is gaining attraction these days. There are many small segments which are emerging with health care industry. Diagnosis industry have gained lot of attention in last 5 to 6 years because in 70% cases doctors don't start treatment until they ask for test reports as its more scientific and evidence based.
Mentioning the success stories like Dr. Lal path labs he mentioned that it has created new niche of diagnosis and pathology that itself have become industry. Lot of private equity and venture capitals are doing investments in these sectors specially from last 7-8 years and they are looking with very positive state of mind.
He further added that Indian diagnostic model is very different from other countries like China and other European industry. In China, the diagnostic model is all state funded or public laboratories. On the other hand, 70%-80% diagnostic is still very local activity in India. While the large players are there but they are still very small fraction in whole diagnostics market. However, the paradigm is now changing, and it is getting more organized. There is consolidation which we are seeing in last 7- 8 years and this sector is attracting mix talent like IT business professionals, marketing professionals, IT, technicians, doctors. Therefore, this sector is opening gates for employment.
Post Covid there is lot of changes taking place in this industry and becoming more digital oriented. Now people are more afraid of going to congested labs therefore, home care culture in which the samples are collected from home only and people don't have to step out from home is being adopted. Convenience has become new benchmark coupled with technical leadership. Lot of new players are entering the market who will disrupt the conventional model of pathology. The large company are also changing their business model specially in this post covid era which will stay for couple of years.
